Lexi
Uhm... What's this thing going on about blaming the imms for not rp'ing...? It's just unfair, and it's not even true. I for one keep coming back to FL because of the roleplay. Compare it to almost any other MMORPG with a functionable PK-system, and you will know what I mean. Also, I am of the opinion that the new, very popular, graphical(I'm not even sure that is a real word, but you know what I mean) MMORPG's, such as World of Warcraft, Warhammer, Dark Age of Camelot, and the likes, are to blame for the low MUD population (unfortunately, FL is not the only MUD that has lost players the last decade), not the code, not the players and certainly not the Immortals. Without them, there wouldn't even be a game. Remember when Bryntryst and Co shut it down? Right. And now the Immortals aren't RP'ing with you often enough? Jeesh... I'm grateful for the chance to play here, even if I fail to express that gratitude often enough. I could go on rambling about this in my newfound self-righteous fury, but I'll just save you the bandwidth. So, anyway, the short version... Even while some of you might think that the RP standard of FL has gone down, it still is alot better than most of the games aviable. I'm sad to see another player go, and upset to see people blame the staff for the decline of RP. I love this game.
Iyorvin
I offered a million gold for people to at least try and take part in my rp plot with Crelle and got a response of one person. heh. With Telden I tried to start a player run clan and found basically no one interrested in the rp. On Tizz I tried to create a rebellion against Martineius, no one joined me. I chase the mountain, the mountain grows legs and runs away. Don't always try to dictate the direction of RP. It is everywhere, sometimes leaching onto anothers is just as good. Instead of having 50 different self made RP's by everyone in the mud, we can have 2-3 that others(those not too self indulgent), can help make a foundation for. Implementor Anume Posted July 27, 2006 Implementor Report Share Posted July 27, 2006 Also allow your char to develope with events. Don't keep to a strict plan, let events change them. Perhaps they will go a completely direction than what you had first planned for them, it can get very fun results.
Iconz
All i know is that when this MUD first started... players actually recruited others to come play. We took it on ourselves to advertise... I was recruited to play by one of my buddies... you dont see much of that anymore... hell... we barely even vote. Oh... players started plots too... I remember Airen starting her own plot... I remember Athelea starting her own plot... Sereniel did her own thing. But... not every plot will succeed cuz you have to involve other players... they have to want to join. Iyorvin is right... instead of attempting to be the center of every plot, youll find more success in going along with what seems to be going on. Thats what i did w/ my very first RP intensive character and i ended up playing a small role in the child of lies plot and it was a blast. No offense or anythin... but how come whenever someone is leaving the MUD they have to post some long flameprone overdramatic post on why the game isnt good enough for them??? I mean... usually theyre the ones who end up coming back and playing anyway... Whatever happened to just sayin your goodbyes and leavin? I can respect that...all this does is demoralize people who might have been having a goodtime before reading a downer. When i stopped playing cuz i wasnt having much fun.. i didnt post some long thread about it... i just took off... then one day i decided that my schoolwork was more manageable and i started playing again... but this... this just seems like were just being dramatic for no reason. __________________ Iconz - When its time to leave...leave em silent but deadly... With Telden I tried to start a player run clan and found basically no one interrested in the rp. On Tizz I tried to create a rebellion against Martineius, no one joined me. I chase the mountain, the mountain grows legs and runs away. I loved the rp with Telden and looked forward to everytime we interacted (I was Legaro and was deep into the band of light stuff). I thought it was brilliant. With Tizz I wasn't around for the Rebelion, but we rp'd a lot when I had Legari. With Crelle... yeah I tried a contest like that too and I only got six replies to it. I think people just needed to be exposed to them more and there would have been more entries. Anyway, it sucks that your leaving man. I thought all of those char's were brilliant. (especialy when Crelle talked about having plays in the inn. As a theatre student I was sitting there going "HELL YEAH!)
Iusedtobesomebody
to quote Myrek, "life sucks. wear a helmet." sorry to see a player go, but hey, it ain't for everyone. when i first started (recruited by Myrek and UndeadThief/Malosos/whateverhecallshimselfnow), i made a necromancer. i got creamed from one end of Thera to the other. grishnak pounded the snot out of me repeatedly (i was savant, him WM). i could have quit right then, but i stuck it out. my next character was a bard, and well the rest is history. if i had given up after the necro, there would never have been a Karman or a Child of Lies plot. there would have been no Dienne the vamp-smasher or Vylan the Sihlouette of Death (that right, Crypt?) or the countless other characters that i and others have enjoyed. my point is this... give it time. jump into the PK aspect and multi-kill everyone who doesn't RP with you. make them learn that character 'demands' RP or he kills you again. then come here and 'retire' the character and announce that, yes, that bad-*** was you. then, from that moment on, people will RP with everyone they meet for fear it is you. or you can walk away, and find something more your taste. if you do, i truly hope you find the right one that will allow you do what it is you want to do. EyeSeeU
Well said, Not much more I could add that hasn't already been used for words of encouragement. If there is one thing Ive learned from playing here since beta its that, the game will go on with or without you. No one single person makes or breaks the game, Sorry folks nobody is that special as much as we think that we may be. Get back up clear your head and roll another character. If not leave for awhile the game will still be here.
WarriorCleric
The game has lost its appeal to me. One in every 50 players here realizes the fun of rp, and the rp enforced side of the game has been neglected. Silent pk outweights rp'd pk 100 to 1 and each time I log on I am left in bitter disappointment. I deleted my pinnacled chars because I was convinced it was just my characters, but I've come to realize its not so. Roleplay has been sacrificed. If you can't see what I'm talking about, just try typing who every once in a while. See the number? Now compare it to some older whos, when we actually had a quality game and quality players. When immortals would come down to rp with you, but you didn't really need it so much because other players were running rp plots, rather than saying its rp when their evil bashlocks a paladin. That's not rp...its pk...that should have arisen from RP, but if the RPs not there it didn't. I've heard claims that its a good thing because it means we're gaining players, but that is not true. Its not the newbs committing trash, its people who've been here almost as long as me or longer. The newbs will rp with me every time I try. They may not be good at it, but they will try...and they will have fun. I saw this on Crelle alot, being a teacher at the academy. My fellow players have forgotten that RP isn't implied, its done. Its not a way of thinking, its something you do. Its an action you take, not something that backs an action. Again, I will probably be flamed and torn apart for this post, and that is because those who still play here are those who have not left...and those who have created a game that only 20 people at a time want to play, rather than the one I enjoyed which flourished with people. I will still be hanging around the forums because I enjoy the community, but I won't be logging in. Why does every person that leaves feels the need to take a pot shot at the game? You don't like it? So leave, but don't slag the work that other people are lovingly putting into it, and don't try and rain on everyone elses parade. Do you think your reasons for leaving would be some big secret shrouded in mysteries that will be harder to crack than the davinici code? No, you've made it more than clear how you feel about the current staff, and how you feel about the current player base many times over. And in your countless bitchings you have failed to change peoples minds, and failed to changed what you think are flawed practices, all while continually hinting about your own mud ideas, and your own mud hostings. RP is staying true to your character, not creating a large sweeping arch. Sure, players can create a large story arch, and should, but if you can't that isn't the playerbases fault, it's because it was something you were not capable of doing, for whatever reason it may be. I really just don't get the way so many people play, if you aren't having fun, leave. No one will hold it against you, but when you leave don't be a dick. Just say good bye, if you have to say you aren't having fun do so, and leave. That isn't hard to do. But no, you have to piss on the imms and piss on the playerbase. Thanks alot, we really enjoy it, and enjoy that you will still be around to piss on us some more, and share your 100% correct economical political agenda, even if you aren't playing. Now I bolded and underlined a few comments made from the first post, perhaps someone could explain it to me, I suppose Warp will, since we are worth him to hang around and call names and bitch at, but we're not good enough to play with. And people call me an ***. WC
Warpnow
In response to EyeSeeU, You are correct. No single person affects the game. However, we aren't talking about single persons. As I suggested, type who. You'll noticed the player count hasn't moved from 80-100 to 79-99. And to WarriorCleric, I say that the reason people like me make the posts we make is because we do love FL. Its a game, but at the same time its a community and a part of our life. Its something I've done for a third of my life, as short as it may be. Its been a home away from home for me when my life took turns I didn't enjoy. Its been a reprieve in times of sadness, and its been something I've always thought helped me get through the day. I guess we hope that by speaking out we can somehow regain that lost joy. That we can somehow reclaim what once brought us such unestimable amounts of relief. That by making the final grasp at hope we are at least taking the chance, rather than letting the sand fall between our fingers. And as for my own mud admin experiences, I do not believe I often discussed or ever crossed a line I should not have. I never used this forum, or this community to advertise or promote any other mud. I have, at times, discussed things I know with other members of the forum. I happen to know some things about muds and how they work. I don't see how that's different from discussing video games or books, but I'll leave you to believe whatever you want. And I'd love to continue and just point out the seemingly nonending vaccum of flames that is your post, but I won't, because your comments there aren't worthy of my response. Ex-D&Der
Take a break, come back and play something that you always wanted to play but that you're not that invested in. After serious MUD frustration, I made a human thief. How cool is that? Went around stealing and stuff, setting traps. Never got anywhere, but it was fun again. a-guitarist
Warpnow... I can't speak for anyone else, but piss off. If you're going to **** on the game that helped you through your tough times like you said, then no one wants you here. In game or on the forum. a-g
WarriorCleric
Warp, here's a tip, if my comments are worth your response, then don't make two thirds your post about em. FL owes you nothing for the time you spent here. You got fun out of the time you put in, that makes it equal. You'd stand a better chance of getting the recognition you desire if you didn't tell the community how much it sucked. You tell me I flame, I agree. In a continued response I have to say; Hi pot, hows kettle? Your goodbye wasn't a cry for change, it was one more giant slap into the face of the current community and staff. You continually gripe about how bad things are, and how bad the players are, and you wonder why people won't work with you? You aren't the only person who doesn't like how things have turned out, but not all of us who think that way take it personally. You just refuse to accept the change, are you sure you're not a republician? The current staff revived a dead mud, and have an almost impossible task of living upto a name, give em a break. They are doing a good job with it. WC
