Seliana & Durimar

Edge of the Pond

You are at the edge of a small pond. A group of dark brown ducks with

green heads slowly swims across its surface, quacking in joy, without

any sign of worry. There are orange fishes beneath the surface, feeding

on the small organisms near the bottom. Tiny ripples are lifted by the

soft winds across the surface of the pond. The edge of the pond

continues to the east and west.

[Exits: east west]

Durimar rides in.

You hear the distant, mad cackle of Mak the Madder.

Durimar raises an eyebrow.

Durimar stops following you.

Durimar sits down and rests.

You bite your lip contemplatively.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Not exactly what I had in mind, but very well.'

You say 'We could go elsewhere, if you wish.'

Durimar shakes his head.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' No more of that.'

Durimar clenches an armoured fist.

Mak the Madder yells 'Afrigha ghr emfun adka!'

Durimar looks at you.

Seliana sits down just next to you.

You rest.

You say 'I am sorry..'

Durimar stands up.

Durimar folds his arms.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Now what do you wish to know?'

You say 'Perhaps you could explain more in detail about the Rift, and its purpose?'

Durimar nods slightly.

The sun slowly disappears in the west.

The night has begun.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Certainly. The Rift are a militant organisation dedicated to allowing it's members to reach their fullest potential.

Mak the Madder yells 'Afrigha ghr emfun adka!'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' We have made our pacts with the demonic legions beyond our plane of existance, and they lend us a fraction of their powers in exchange for servitude.'

Seliana scratches her chin thoughtfully.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Our philosophy is that strength is the truest virtue, and we persue that along the lines of excellence.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' The reason we take lands and conquer cities is an extension of this philosophy. Because we can, we do.'

You say 'Where does the name come from?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' If we have them, then clearly we are the strongest and deserve them.'

You nod.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Ah, the Nexus you mean?'

You say 'Yes..'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' It refers to the source of our powers, the Demonic Nexus, the gap between our world and...what lay beyond.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Our demonic allies allow us to tap this power, against our enemies.'

Brrrrrrrrr.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Oh, come now.'

You say 'There are rumors..'

You bite your lip contemplatively.

Durimar looks at you.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Yes?'

You say 'The bloodletting? It comes from this gateway?'

You hear the distant, mad cackle of Mak the Madder.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' The Nexus is the source of all Demonic power in these lands, and it stems from another existance altogether.'

Seliana looks over her shoulder.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' The Undead...have their own hierarchy...'

You say 'This place is... creepy...'

A cold, haunting melody is heard as Durimar whistles a song of pain and loss behind his onyx mask.

You say 'And you named yourself after this source?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Well, not me personally, but yes.'

Seliana smiles faintly at Durimar.

You say 'And it has existed in this world since the beginning of time?'

Durimar nods slightly.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' As far as I can gather, yes.'

You say 'Do you know when it was discovered?'

A cold, mocking chuckle is heard in Durimar's direction.

You bite your lip contemplatively.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' We did not discover it. It discovered us.'

You raise an eyebrow at the notion.

You say 'It discovered you?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' The first legions of the Nexus were those who were first contacted by the Demonic forces outside our existance.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' It was the demons who whispered in their ears of power beyond imagination.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' This was, naturally, so long ago as to defy written history's grasp'

You nod at Durimar.

You say 'So in a way, the demons choose you as their allies?'

Durimar nods slightly.

You say 'They gifted you with powers..'

You say 'But at what cost?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' They, and every Nexus since, has been given the choice. We make it freely. Power for servitude.'

A cold, haunting melody is heard as Durimar whistles a song of pain and loss behind his onyx mask.

You say 'Servitude? How do they benefit from that?'

You say 'The demons, I mean..'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' We are their mortal agents in this existance.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' We are their fists.'

You say 'Ohh..'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Their eyes.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Their rage.'

You say 'It seems you lash out against everthing... Almost unfocused..'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' With great power, comes the chance to do so.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' None are ever the same after tapping the Rift.'

You smile at him.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' At first, I too was consumed with the power.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' It overwhelms the senses.'

You nod at Durimar.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' I have since learned....restraint.'

Durimar clenches an armoured fist.

You say 'Have any person ever forced themself to this power?'

Maniacal, metallic laughter is heard from beneath the faceplate of Durimar.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' What do you mean, exactly?'

You say 'The Rift, as you say, is a portal to the more chaotic planes?'

Durimar nods slightly.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Of a kind.'

You say 'It seems obvious to me that people would try to exploit this power.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Malynne was once mortal, then twisted into the Arch Fiend for a time.'

You say 'You say the demons bless you with gifts..'

Durimar nods slightly.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Yes, of course.'

You say 'I was just wondering if it could work the other way around..'

You say 'Could a mortal from this world put the demonic forces under their servitude?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' We do, to an extend. Nothing is ever free.'

You nod at Durimar.

You say 'I see..'

You bite your lip contemplatively.

You say 'You must excuse me if I ask strange questions..'

You say 'It is hard for me to grasp this.'

You say 'It is not like anything else I ever heard of.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' You are not of The Rift. Your perception is limited.'

Mak the Madder yells 'Afrigha ghr emfun adka!'

You nod at Durimar.

Durimar sits down and rests.

You say 'So the Nexus are the only ones able to draw energy from the Rift?'

You say 'And you use these powers to fulfill the wishes of your demonic masters?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Occasionally, mortals are granted individual pacts.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' These would be the Demons you see about.'

You say 'Ohh..'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Most of them choose to serve us, though.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Though they must prove themselves as well.'

You say 'Have anyone ever explored the Rift? Travelled beyond?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Nobody who has returned.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' We've lost many who have tapped too much, gone too far, and never returned.'

You say 'But creatures have breached into our realm?'

Durimar nods slightly.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' To an extend, yes.'

You smile at him.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Extent, rather.'

You say 'What will happen when you achieve your goals?'

You say 'When you have supreme strength?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' There will be no pain, no suffering. There will be order and obedience, under our heels.'

You hear the distant, mad cackle of Mak the Madder.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' As the most powerful force in existance, it is our duty to put right this existance.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' To shape it to a form more pleasing to our masters.'

Seliana looks up in the sky and snorts annoyedly as the rain begins to pour down.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' In such a world, individuals will be free to do whatever they wish so long as they have the might.'

You bite your lip contemplatively.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' As it should be. We will not coddle the weak, or all the infirm to drain our resources.'

Durimar clenches an armoured fist.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Allow, rather.'

You say 'I can only imagine how a world like that would be..'

Seliana sighs sadly.

Durimar whistles an uplifting tune.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Triumphant, and glorious.'

You say 'Harsh, and unforgiving.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Tough, but fair.'

You say 'Lonely...'

A cold, mocking chuckle is heard in Durimar's direction.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' We are never alone.'

You say 'I believe we strayed from the topic..'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' By all means, you have my undivided attention.'

You say 'For how long have Nexus controlled this Rift?'

Maniacal, metallic laughter is heard from beneath the faceplate of Durimar.

You say 'Ohh..'

You say 'This desert we passed, and this city we are in... Are they not a result of the Rift being opened?'

Durimar grins evilly.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' I find it soothing here.'

You smile at him.

You say 'Would you answer my questions, please?'

Durimar clenches an armoured fist.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Who can say how time applies to such beings?'

You say 'Would dare to make a qualified guess?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Since well beyond our recorded history.'

You say 'Millenias?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' We are cosmic eyeblinks, to these creatures.'

Durimar nods slightly.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Of course.'

You bite your lip contemplatively.

You say 'These beings..'

You say 'Are they united?'

You say 'What I mean is... Do they work together?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' We are legion. Our goal is singular.'

You nod at Durimar.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' The purpose is the same, but the strongest lead and the weak follow.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' The constant struggle defines and improves us.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' So it is reasonable to see how some may believe it to be....chaotic.'

You say 'At times the weak rise, and overthrow the strong.. No?'

A cold, mocking chuckle is heard in Durimar's direction.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' But then they were never really weak, were they?'

You say 'Would you define 'weak' and 'strong' for me?'

You say 'Am I weak, and you strong?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Strength flows from power, and one's ability to use that power to affect the world around them.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Weakness lay in being too fearful or too apathetic to do anything about what you know to be wrong.'

You say 'Is there greater strength in numbers, or in solitude?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' The Strong fight on their own. The weak do so in numbers.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Knights, for instance, are notorious for such behavior.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' The Justice as well.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' This represents weakness.'

You say 'An army with numbers matching those of the evening stars would overthrow any empire.'

You say 'Is there not strength in unity?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Look around you.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' We hold these lands in our iron fists.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Clearly, not.'

Mak the Madder yells 'Afrigha ghr emfun adka!'

You say 'And if a thousand Knights rose to challenge you? What would the outcome be?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' A thousand dead Knights, likely.'

Seliana grins mischievously.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Fighting against many makes one stronger.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Fighting with others makes you grow dependant upon them.'

You say 'Then.. Would you not be stronger without the Nexus?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' In a way, yes. But we would be unable to enact more far reaching agendas.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' One can do more as a General than as a soldier, you must realize.'

You say 'Does the General not rely upon his soldiers?'

A cold, mocking chuckle is heard in Durimar's direction.

You say 'And they upon him?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Our Generals don't.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' And our troops demonic legions.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' They do not need hand holding.'

You say 'You said you had made some earlier records..'

You say 'Would you show them to me?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Perhaps. It depends upon what you would use them for.'

You say 'Would it be possible for me to abuse them?'

You say 'Then perhaps I should not have asked.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' There is the potential for abuse in any knowledege.'

You say 'Then...'

You bite your lip contemplatively.

You say 'Let me know of what purposes you would allow, and I will take a vow only to use them as you intended - if I choose to use them at all.'

Durimar nods slightly.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Very well. I will compose a few scrolls, then.'

You beam delightedly at nothing in particular.

You say 'Really?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Of course. It is a minor task.'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' It will not be immediate, but you will get them.'

You nod at Durimar.

You say 'Of course.'

You say 'I am not sure if I had any more questions..'

You say 'Is there something else of importance I should know about?'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' I believe I have covered quite a bit of ground.'

You nod.

You hear the distant, mad cackle of Mak the Madder.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' I have some matters to attend to...'

You say 'I might come to you with more questions, if the need would arise. Unless you mind?'

You say 'Of course.'

You smile at him.

You say 'Thank you, m'lord.'

Durimar clenches an armoured fist.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' But of course.'

A cold, haunting melody is heard as Durimar whistles a song of pain and loss behind his onyx mask.

You say 'May I ask..'

You say 'Why do you wear that mask?'

Durimar growls.

Durimar stands up.

You yell 'Help! I am being attacked by Durimar!'

You draw your weapon.

You wield the Dragon Slayer.

Durimar's punch LACERATES you!

Durimar is in excellent condition.

You flee from combat!

You lost 10 exp.

Durimar the Will of Gods is here.

You peer intently at Durimar.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' It is a personal matter.'

You say 'Of course.. I did not know..'

A cold, haunting melody is heard as Durimar whistles a song of pain and loss behind his onyx mask.

Durimar touches his gauntlet to the side of his onyx mask.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Of course not.'

Seliana places a comforting hand on your shoulder.

You say 'I am sorry..'

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' There is a price with everything.'

Durimar coldly stares at the offending hand.

You nod at Durimar.

You say 'Be well.'

You hear the distant, mad cackle of Mak the Madder.

Durimar nods slightly.

Durimar says, in a cold metallic voice ' Always.'
