Fiction and Fact about FL

There's been a few annoying and persistent 'themes' about FL that have been bugging the crap out of me whenever I glance through the forums. Whenever, in the future, such remarks are made, feel free to refer them to this post, which will probably be continually updated as necessary.

1)

Fiction: RP was 'much better in the old days'.

Fact: Sorry, many people weren't even IC all the time in the old days. I was there during the old days, and I don't have as selective memory. I remember such current notables as Saisha, Elise, and others going OOC all the damn time. The only reason RP seems 'better' back then was because, back then, most of you were probably going 'lol' and 'wtf'...yes, as I admit, as I had as well.

Fiction: FL's playerbase is declining...'due to the crappy IMM's we have'.

Fact: FL's playerbase was cut more than in HALF when the damn MUD was shut down; half the players up and left, and never returned. The MUD has been slowly GROWING since then, back to its old sizes slowly.

You want to blame someone for the MUD being small? Blame yourselves, for pissing off the entirety of the previous IMP-staff, who consulted and met with Virigoth first, enough to shut the MUD down and kill our numbers.

Fiction: FL's IMM's just aren't enough, we need more IMM's.

Fact: FL's IMM's are at similar proportions to the old pbase/immbase size. Are there not enough? Get more, then.

4)

Fiction: Old IMM's did more.

Fact: In THIS forum alone, on the prayer forums, we have over one THOUSAND threads (not posts, THREADS) on the prayer forums, nearly all of them which have had IMM responses, some of them lengthy and thought out, and some of them with multiple posts.

Factor in the amount of time, aside from dealing with the prayer forums as well as reading through/moderating the forum, and I think it's fairly safe to say that we spend at least, on average, an hour or so each day dealing with FL/FL-related stuff, or on the MUD, and that's at -least-. Certain dedicated hard workers, such as Eshaine, put in far, far more.

Fiction: Some IMM's are powermongering *******s.

Fact: Chances are, this attitude is caused by OOC AIM buddy rings, where people who were punished try (as is only human nature) to make themselves look good, try to make us look bad, and yadda yadda so forth. And, of course, 'the man' obviously must be the bad guy.

Without even giving examples of idiocy, cheating, and rule-breaking that we have to deal with on the GAME, here's two examples of RECENT forum idiocy we have to deal with. Just two.

"**** you Malchaeius, **** you Chayesh, Its because of IMMs like you that should not be there in the first place that have turned this game into a game for children."

Or,

"For you, its a way to get power in some way, but for others its a means of having fun. Congratulations, you messed up someone's fun[...]Irumeru can't fix the bugs[...]slaps together crap and tosses it in the MUD[...]Wish Virigoth and the old staff was back, then you would all just be players and my opinion and every other opinion would mean something."

Referring, naturally, to the old staff...who shut the game down, because they were fed up with the lower IMM-base, and loud, idiotic members of the pbase.

The two posters have been banned. And, for those of you who know them OOC, they would probably tell you it was for 'speaking my mind' and 'sticking it to the man' or some idiocy. No, it was for cussing out the administration and blatantly disrespecting them.

Fiction: FL is a dictatorship! I want to be able to say/do what I want! I want freedom of speech/be able to flame/be able to whine and complain as much as I want!

Fact: FL is a privately owned MUD that is made free of charge to the public. As with all private organizations, we maintain this right: "We may refuse service to anyone as we see fit." This is true for the game. This is true for the forum as well.
