WalkingShadow
In the description of the spell it says that since the blades spin so fast around the caster it has a small chance of deflecting attacks agenst said caster. Does that factor in rank or skill both or neither? What I mean to say is does the "small chance" grow as you rise in rank or master the spell? Pali
Let me put it this way: no spell/skill for any class works as well unmastered as it does mastered, and no spell/skill for any class works as well pre-pinn as it does at pinn.

mya
This should be in newbie foruns. Battlemages spells are a totaly diferent beast at pinacle. As are Invockers with a fully charged staff.
Kyzarius
this IS the newbie forum Always master your spells. Always, no questions asked. Mastery improves the spells performance, sometimes increases chance of addded effects, and you will not lose concentration.

And there are exceptions. You won't catch me training a damned thing on an FG cleric, for example. Training is good for essential things, but I have never understood why people get so wound up about having to master crap. I think if you rolled a character and trained just the very bare essentials, heck, even nothing, you'd have a lot more fun at pinn fighting as opposed to training skills/spells, whether not training costs you lives or not. Wasn't there that character who was pretty successful, and just had like, nothing trained? A warrior I think. I just remember seeing a PK log and half-way through it said, "You have gotten better at Shield-block!". It made me laugh. Dey Dey
Belegriel
The only things I can think of that are absolutely 100%, beyond a shadow of a doubt must trains---->blm and monk anatomies. You can probably get by with just letting most everything else build up as you rank and fight. I still train though, for peace of mind.
Deykari
Same deal for me. But I mean, those people that master Comprehend Languages for example. Oh, wait. I forgot about it's hidden extra-uber properties it grants at 100%. Dey
Iusedtobesomebody
there are a lot things i think are 'crucial' to master. hide/camo- you don't want to fail these when a big bad warrior is coming to bash you. word of recall- you don't want to lose concentration when you have 34 hp left. a warrior can get away with not mastering defenses, they have many. a mage with only parry, better have it 100%. it's the only thing standing between you staying alive long enough to cast your spell. i think each class has it's 'must' skills, but you don't have to do each and every one. just train the ones you think you will use in each and every PK situation. Deykari
Well, replace 'Social Life' with 'Life outside of FL'. I dare somebody to roll a FG cleric without sickly/unlucky perks and just master EVERY SINGLE THING. Dey

Fiere
Trainin is a big deal if you do it wrong. I discovered that with The Dastard vs. Vance. Vance, I did it right, and rocked many a person's world (of course, it was at thirty with a thief. Not exactly that hard.) On the other hand, one of the main reasons I deleted Skiven was because I hadn't done any training on the things that really needed it.
