Avian Ninja vs Demon BMG - 4 rounds

Ninja farming gold in Elemental ambushed by BMG. I don't know how to quickly do cool colors or anything like that so the log is boring. At least it's short.

Fight lasts 4 rounds + spells while wearing some of the best gear I've ever had. Comments at the end.

Observations:

  1. Sac lag is odd... hard to get used to.  If the issue is sacrificing items in combat, maybe make it so the command doesn't work in combat. I mean I was literally 98% dead before I got a command in.
  2. Bad things happen when you don't have sanc up.
  3. In response to forum comments that BMGs are weak. Either:

They aren't. 4. Or gear inflation has really warped the game at 50. 5. Or both.

Got him to "small wounds and bruises". That is incredibly disappointing since I thought my gear was decent. So either:

  1. Ninjas aren't the melee machines that some players have made them appear.
  2. Or gear inflation has really warped the game at 50.
  3. Or both.

It sucked to be on the receiving end, but it was an impressive beat down.

Concerns:

If gear affects the game this much, why have levels? Has gear replaced levels?

If gear affects the game this much, it isn't so fun. It's like the rich kid picking on poor kids or throwing rocks at tanks.

If gear DOESN'T affect the game this much, it sure feels like it.

  1. or getting caught with no buffs, no sanc, unprepared by anyone is almost a sure death.  That could be it too.

One good suggestion came out of this:

The rest, however I think were originally exacerbated by the fact you couldn't flee because you got caught sacrificing items.

I believe it was less this and more sacrificing after death.  You can't kill (or be killed), loot(ed) and the rest of the stuff sac'd quickly.

Which is why everyone just leaves their shit lying around these days.

EG:

The Northern Gate

[Exits: north east south west up]

A mighty Fortress looms over the area.

( 5) (Glowing) A well-kept leather vest is here, stamped with the sigil of the Blackwatch Guard.

( 5) (Golden Aura) (Glowing) A glowing steel-forged sword is here, engraved with the sigil of the Blackwatch Guard.

(Golden Aura) (White Aura) A member of the Blackwatch Guard is here, guarding the gates of Blackwatch Village.

(Golden Aura) A group of elven archers mans the battlements of Fort Blackwatch.

Several dwarven masons have set up shop here, protected by heavily armored dwarven berserkers.

Five or even fifty extra gold isn't worth the round of lag, especially while farming.

The death is absolutely from the self-imposed lag lock. (He would have had to chase at least.)

But I still find the lack of damage output by the ninja shocking. Even with sanc, it looks like the BMG would have done more melee damage, but I could be wrong.

@Kyzarius Your wording is interesting. You listed buffs and sanc separately. Class buffs were up. If buffs are mandatory for survival (which is what you seem to be implying), then we're back to the game being about equipment.

@Magick You're right. It wasn't for the gold. I'm still in the habit of cleaning up.

What do you think about doing a bloody timer type thing following a playerkill that creates that lag? Attacked by a player or following a player kill will create that timer which makes your sacrifices have the heavy lag, but isn't associated with sacrificing items from a mob fight?

Not being able to sacrifice in combat is a strategy that is utilized with disarm, albeit its less impactful these days as most people have norem/nodrop, but its a classic way of ridding your enemy of a shield or vuln weapons that are a pain in the ass.

I fail to see how that's a good change.

But I guess I'm just missing something.

Can you connect the lag / timer to the value of the item being sac'ed?

That's actually a good idea, too. Elaborate?

The issue in this example is someone got lagged doing "cleanup" on junk.

The problem that the lag was supposed to fix was abusing looted corpses. Or to take it a step further, the problem is replacing that hard-earned gear.

So there's no need to lag for lvl 1 gear because it is easy to get... assuming things are set properly.

Does that make sense?

Option 1

  • Item is unique - 2 rounds lag
  • Item is rare - 1 round lag
  • Item is common - 0 lag

Option 2 (given the disparity of item values, I don't think this will be a good option, but it's included for thoroughness.)

  • Value < 10, then you have 2 rounds lag
  • Value < 500, then you have 1 round lag
  • Value > 500, then you have 0 rounds lag

Option 3

  • Item level > 50, 2 rounds of lag
  • Item level < 50, 1 round of lag
  • Item level < 40, 0 rounds of lag

@Magick Pretty much nailed what I was thinking. The only thing I'd change is that if this is done based on lvl, it should be compared to the character's level.

That being said, his "option 1" is probably the simplest to implement properly and would be the most accurate right out the gate.

I would argue .5 round lag on commons. Still provides some lag so you don't lose all your non-gear stuff in a death.

A bloody timer is not a good solution, because anyone could just have their friend or ally come sac a bunch of stuff from a corpse to avoid the penalty.

Item level > calm  character current lag is acceptable.

Item level > adrenaline rushing character level double it

Item level = calm character level half it.

Item level = adrenaline rushing character level  current lag is acceptable.

Item level < calm character level 1/4 it.

Item level < adrenaline rushing character level current lag is acceptable.

You should not be able to disarm and destroy my non rare weapon with no penalty. Unique/Rare should not be a factor or you will create a rift between the tiers.

The moment you loot a corpse you get a bloody timer, btw. But I️ guess one person could loot and the other sac

Can you explain that more?

1 hour ago, Fool_Hardy said:

Why..?

  1. Its non-rare so its not hard for you to get again.

  2. I do have a penalty.. I have the two round lag from disarm.

If you're fast enough, you can capitalize on that 2 rounds of lag from the disarm and re-wield and fire off an attack of your own.

I swear, with every one of these "little" changes, we get rid of the player skill aspect of this game.

If a moderate, you can wear fewer rares. To be competitive I have found it easier as a moderate to simply wield only non rare weapons . Otherwise, Rem all/ wear demons/ wear all to remove a weapon, can result in too many rares worn and an inability to rewield the rare weapons. Just a problem stumbled on by an old fool.

I hope that enlightens @myrek.

I agree with this. I can see you're rocking the infamous planar which is an exotic, he'll defend easier against that, not sure what your other weapon is. Would love to know your hit n dam. As my bmg i could beat ninjas head to head, except kotrag, unless the ninja was LS and they disallowed me from healing the poison, only then was I screwed.

You can't just not have sanc up then use the result as a basis to make some big claims and I believe the melee machine ninja people refer to is doublesheath.

If he was an invoker you would of been dead in half the time.
