Crucial
Portals 3 portals be, NOt gonna rhyme anymore. How about making a couple mroe portals to some smaller towns?
corpsestomp
This might discourage exploring though. But it might be a good idea, smaller towns should take more gold to get to. Maybe 1000 gold?
Crucial
yeah, I like it, lets get the motors running. Think people!
goldbond
people use that xymerria, marak and gal rhandon take a bit to get to as a strategy. part of me likes this idea a lot, and another part doesnt. but upping the gold to 1000 does make me feel more receptive to it. The Forsaken
Used to be more. Falen dara used to have a portal. That was before Rhyedin was around though.
Icor
It might overload newbs, though. Have the basic portals and then the long distance portals. There are ways to balance things, too. Have the long distance ones damage you and cost more.
Fiere
Perhaps if there was no "exit portal". I.E., you portal to some ridiculously far away place, they no where you are and can go meet you there or some such thing. So it wouldn't screw up PK too much. corpsestomp
Or, instead of damage, have it make you drained for a certain amount of time? The further the portal, the longer you're drained. edit: Also, all portals could take you to any other one, you just say 'Val Miran' and it automatically takes gold, or you say it, then they tell you the price. F-3000
First off, why this aint in ideas/suggestions forum? Secondly, mangles? I wouldn't consider seeing that amount of corpses from newbies/lowbies around as funny. Besides, lazy walkers use portals anyways.
goldbond
because a MANGLE and 1500 gold is about right to get to marak. and these portals arent/shouldnt be lowbie friendly anyway. probably should make them 25+ to be able to use. Deykari
I think that having the three to go between the three main towns (that are fairly close to each other) is fine as it is. Something about being able to zip about Aabahran in portals just doesn't appeal to me. Dey

Well, a mob can't really do combat damage to a player. They can 'mob damage', and then the battle damage is just an echo with some color in there to simulate damage. That damage doesn't have to be lethal, so it'd bring newbs to, like, 10 hp or whatever. Or, like you said, make it so only level 30s can use them. 30 is a good turning point for new players. Even without lag, PKers might not use it. People who PK won't naturally use the current city gates anyway.
Acerbity
Or just have the gates charge for 10+ hours, and see if the gater will wait.
Grumpy
There should be a portal to marak, any other town is quite easy to walk to.
Crucial
Thanks for taking the idea and running with it. I like the portal to marak idea. An Dey, we all know why you dont want any more portals. Its hard enough to camp the ones we got now, let alone a fourth. I do remember the portal in falen dara, but not untill I read it. you sure do have a good memory.
Deykari
An Dey' date=' we all know why you dont want any more portals. Its hard enough to camp the ones we got now, let alone a fourth. [/quote'] I think the idea is, is that some places are supposed to take a little bit of time to get to. Has nothing to do with camping portals. And I can think of a good reason why having a portal to the town of Marak in particular would have some problems. But I'm not allowed to say why. Don't mind me. It's just my opinion anyway. F-3000
I can walk from Val Miran into Marak in less than a minute, without using any path-alias or sort. Hell, even from Rheydin! Dudes, do some exploring... Marak is not that distant place when going into. Besides, if you're bored of walking, make a healer. [Edit] Also, more fun way to try to put the changes into effect is thru RP. Become ogre royal who definitely want's to have the portals between towns. *shrug*
Pali
Getting to any of the far-off towns is NOT THAT HARD. Stop being lazy and walk there.
Implementor Anume Posted August 13, 2006 Implementor Report Share Posted August 13, 2006 There are 3 routes to Marak. Not our fault if you guys all choose to take the longest one
Dizz
I like the idea of extra portals. I think they should be level 30 + and have a drain effect. I think it should be to Marak, duergar town (forgot the name), and back to Rheydin.

Which will make it a complete waste of time to code them in.
Warpnow
You wouldn't need to code them. That's just a mobprog. 10 minutes or so tops.
Designated_Driver
I've kept my mouth shut, to see where this thread goes. But I'll open it now, to make a point. There are portals to all of these places. Want to learn where they are? I'll give you a hint. It starts with "U", and ends with "nderdark". You can reach the central square of Marak in approximately... thirty rooms, from the central square of Val Miran. That's no farther than the central commons of Rheydin.
