It's a tick-based online strategy game. Quite addictive.

I'm stuck in a realm with a ton of people who have obviously played a lot before. They're all blasting out some serious abbreviations and acronyms (that mean absolutely zilch to me) on a regular basis, and I think I have the lowest income in my realm. :D

Like what Dey?

Some obvious ones:

Plat = Platinum

OOP = Out of Protection

GN = Gryphon's Nests

GT = Guard Towers

DP/OP = defensive/offensive power

And this is only my second round, same as you. I've just had the added benefit of having played a very similar game called Utopia.

Ah, thanks. I see.

A lot of the confusion arised from seeing that post that was apparently labelled "help for explorers". The big list of tables that did nothing but at first confuse me. ;) I understand some, but the rest will take time to grasp and understand. I'll get it eventually, after a being able to experiment over a couple of rounds and see which strategies work and which don't work. I seem to have applied one that doesn't work terribly well so far, but it's quite early so I should be able to rectifiy it.

I've played tick based strategy games before but they haven't been much more complicated than a rock-paper-scissors style gameplay, where troop A beats troop B, troop B beats troop C and troop C beats troop A, etc.

First of all, explorer is a type of "strat" or strategy for the round. Explorers don't usually attack. They just build defense and explore land and get bigger and bigger. They defend themselves often by sheer size. Others get really huge, and then convert to attacker. Magick was an explorer last round. If you aren't an explorer, then you don't need to worry about that list.

However, what they are listing there is what your raw dp should be at differing sizes.
