inscribed
Legend of Dragoon was an excellent game. not sure if that's sarcastic or not, but that was quite possibly the worst game I have ever played.
crackwilly21
The WORST RPG ever is called Drakken for SNES, it seems cool at first, but was just TOO horrible to play past the first town.
wolfman
That reminds me of Lufia. It was a good game, but I never beat it because the encounter rate was so freakin' high! I seem to recall that it was more reasonable in the dungeons, but on the overworld, you couldn't walk more than maybe five or ten steps without getting attacked. The Forsaken
That's why they made the potions to make the encounter rate go down.

Benji13
I gotta say, Secret of Mana...... What a game.... I remember playing it for hours..... Still have been actually.... Emulators, where would the world be without them. Im just about to enter the Mana Fortress, for any of you that remember that is like the last part of the game..... I had forgotten how long the game is.....
MeleeCrazy
Xenogears was great, oh and I just have to say that BRAVE FENCER MUSASHI owns all.
Celerity
Never played Xenogears, but BRAVE FENCER MUSASHI sounds a loooot like Miyamoto Musashi, who could be called a brave fencer..I guess. Although, of course, it is way cooler in RL than in a game, right?

The final dungeon for Lufia was AWSOME though.. I mean I still play the game trying to be uber dungeon pwnzor.

Djriacen
I'm suprised no one has said Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. Brilliant game, and as for the FF Series, 6 for the SNES was my personal favorite, but my favorite character out of all of them was Zell from 8 or Cloud from 7...or.. Setzer from 6.. So many choices.. >.<;
Benji13
You know what i must have had a depraved childhood..... i have never seen or played any of the FF games.... *Benji hangs his head in shame*
Deykari
Very first traditional style RPG that I can recall playing is FF7. Then I didn't play any in a while, then I played Baldurs Gate 1 and 2. I know pretty much nothing about all those old RPG games, I was hooked on first-person shooters. Benji13
FPS?? you should hang your head in shame..... I started on Baldurs gate 1 & 2 then Icewind dale.... moved onto Neverwinter Nights.... Then there is the multitude of expansions for them all.... *sigh* Those were the days! Deykari
FPS FTW. I used to play Team Fortress Classic mod for Half-life (none of that counter-strike crap). Then I started on Unreal Tournament 2003, and ended first on the Jolt UK 1v1 Ladder tournament (which I held 12 consecutive victories). Then I got knocked from the top, and in an angry (childish) fit of rage turned to Diablo II. Dey
Benji13
Everything ends with Diablo II..... The amount of LAN's i have had where that is the game that is played last is untrue.... And you always seem to start from the beginning each time.... Well its good to see you turned from you FPS life...... Sad that you had to have one tho... Fear, the Angel's Name
The Lufia series -All- of the Final Fantasy series, especially 2/4 The Secret of Mana (One of my most favorite games of all time, ever, I have played it probably a hundred times from start to finish. Legend of Mana sucked.) Crystalis. Whoever mentioned that, that game is awesome, I used to play that as incessantly as I did Secret of Mana. Legend of Legaia Legend of the Dragoon (don't care what you say, haters, that game was awesome to me. The storyline was gripping) I'd have to say my top five are, in order Secret of Mana Final Fantasy 2(4) Final Fantasy 3(6) Final Fantasy 8 Final Fantasy
HBwillie
Willow' date=' [b']Final Fantasy, Zelda, Dragon Warrior I + II, Faxanadu, Crystalis, Ultima IV for NES. FF6, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, Ys III for SNES. These are the ones that stick out for me growing up, at least as far as video game RPGs go. Theres always the pen and paper gaming, as others mentioned. Call of Cthulu is great. edit: can't forget Star Tropics for NES! + Avatar and Lufia. You got my favs, man.
a-guitarist
Hrm, I feel... like a loser. I've never actually beaten an RPG on any system. EDIT: But I think I've figured out how to beat FL! a-g

Ajindaar
Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Legend of Kyrandia, Das Schwarze Auge ('the black eye', German RPG), oh and of course Fallout 2 (didn't really like the first one). Ever heard of BAT? Kind of mix between RPG and adventure. Betrayal at Krondor, anyone? Eye of the Beholder? Some of those old-school games can be downloaded for free by now. Just google for 'abandonware'. Most of them need some tweaking to be played on today's PCs. (Like, you need to slow them down, or need DOS emulators to run them in.) Kinicky
Gonna have to agree with crystalis - perhaps THE game that got me hooked on RPGs in the first place. Of course Secret of Mana, FF series (7 is my fav), and did anybody mention Gargoyle's Quest? Think that was just on gameboy (original gameboy with the lime green screen) but it hella rocked. Nintendo used to take the cake on RPGs. Now they suck. *sigh* Oh they days when video games had to rely on content and not just graphics...
