I've posted this on most Mud sites out there, TMS, TMC, Mudmagic, ect, so I figured I'd post it up here.

A couple of years back Virigoth, a coder for a mud called "Aabahran: The Forsaken Lands' released his code, which was a derivitive of the code running Abandoned Realms Mud. He released the code because he was no longer able to develop it because of developments in his own life.

So, the code was released. The mud was taken over by a different set of staff members, and was brought back to closed source, the code was removed as a download from their website, though it later become available at mudmagic.com. During that time I've worked for over hal a dozen different muds trying to start off using the FL codebase. Unfortunately the only people who seemed to want to run a mud with it were players from the mud it came from. It wasn't so much that it was not worthy, because it was, but that it had no namesake to it. The mud it came from no longer supported it for their own reasons and few people wanted to start coding with an unsupported codebase that was no longer being developped.

I, for one, have a great respect for the FL code. Look at these other bases: Rom, Circle, Smaug, DoT...isn't FL as good as those? I can't answer that, but I can tell you it can be.

This is why I've started www.flcodebase.com as both a resource for the FL codebase and a development site for what I hope will one day become a full fledged coding project. We are looking for coders who know their stuff. We want to add many systems, debug some its bugs and clean up its appearance.

If you're interrested in joining, please stop by.

Not only will this project benefit the mudding community, but if a success it will benefit this mud, as it would bring it a considerible amount of fame if it became a major codebase.

Which part of my post are you so idioticly calling a lie?

All I said was that the new imms chose, for reasons of their own, to not support the codebase and to take it back to closed source.

My post was not propoganda. It was not ill-natured, nor was it anyway made in a rude manner. I was polite.

Warpnow is a part of the project, if you don't like that, I don't really give a ****, but this project is not propoganda. It is the development of a codebase.

Virigoth did not decide to support the code. FLs new immortals did not decide to support the code. Me and my team have. How that is propganda I would prefer explained, before you flame and bash myself and my project.

Not to bright' date=' are ya warp?[/quote']

Probably not the greatest to insult someone's intelligence and spell words wrong in the sentence you are doing it in. :boggle:

Muahaha!

I personally <3 the site.

Edit: And yea, WC, why do you get your undies in a bunch when someone decided to do something worthwhile that could quite possibly benefit the MUD and it's code?

Spel'n is nto a good indukator of intellajense.

EDIT: Also, if I were a staff member, I'd take the fact that some uppity bunch of know-it-alls were telling me that I wasn't supporting the code as an insult. Because the plain fact is, is the staff supports the code in their own way, thus changing it to their own needs. Saying they don't support the code is like saying Virigoth didn't support ROM or DIKU or MERC because he didn't send all his code to them saying "hey, I made these changes". The staff has simply taken the code which was given to them, and are making it their own. Just like Warpnow is with this project. But to come to the boards and start making a fuss about it is, what I think, my brother has a problem with. Also, why would Warp sign up under a new name if he felt he wasn't crossing the line with this? It's plain to see it is him for a few reasons which I won't get into. I personally don't give a crap about what he's doing. To each their own. I think it's a good idea. But this wasn't the right place to broadcast it, or at least not the right way to do it (IE "idioticly" bad mouthing the staff...again).

it's not the end that bothers him' date=' it's the means, i think.[/quote']

I would like to know how my means are immoral...or unjustified...or wrong in any way...

I don't see how the development of a publicly licensed code can offend someone, least all those who should be most happy and enthused about its success.

I believe this falls under advertising for other MUDs. I think the biggest clue that this is wrong is that a new user was created just to post this. Why would you do that if it wasn't questionable? The message is out there..the arguments/criticisms/support/whatever by players doesn't really matter..and I suggest that everyone waits for imm reaction to this post...as this line of conversation is already out of hand on all counts. So, if you hate this site..leave it be and let the imms see if they want this post on their forum. If you love it or support it: you've already said your message. Let that be also.

I think the website is an alright idea, in some sense. I think you're finally taking your ideas in the right direction, though I am not too blown away you posted it on these forums. And what I find my amusement in is that you have to post under an alias, and yet you still use your warpnow email address on the site. But you're not the first person to make this mistake on this forum, that title goes to Elfrosto for many of his lovely reviews of FL under different names.

That and the continued misrepresentation of the current staff as evil.

Probably not the greatest to insult someone's intelligence and spell words wrong in the sentence you are doing it in. :boggle:

OMG! U totaly got m3!1!

Pointing out that I mispelled words and **** up my grammer is like pointing out that a kid with downs is mental retarded. Everyone knows it...

Well, apparently a few of the things I said have been drastically misunderstood.

When I said the imms do not support the codebase I meant they don't offer support to those running the codebase, which...in all 100% honesty, is something they've just decided not to do. I am FINE with this decision, but I believe the code has the potential to become a hit if it does have proper support, so I have decided to offer it. It was NOT an insult to the immortals of this game.

And secondly I created a new account here because you have to have one to post. I have made an account before, but I do not remember what it is. It has been a long time since I've been here.

And maybe calling WC an idiot was a mistake, but when he draws insane misconceptions about the intentions of my project and insults and flames it, I see no other way to describe him.

And for WC: My email for this site is Alorger@gmail.com, an email address I have maintained for many years.

If I wanted to "trash" or "insult" anyone, I would have went to much better ways. Like a TMS review. Oh, wait. I already posted that and the next day the Immortals turned off reviews.

I would never flame or insult or attack anyone on their own website.

My project is not propoganda.

My project is a legitimate attempt to promote the FL codebase. I apologize for thinking people here might want to have a hand in improving and/or distributing something that has made their life better.

This will be my last post on this forum.

Edit: You are right, its not, that's because I didn't setup the site and my account was created as the first one by the system and used the info provided at configuration.

Virigoth never offered to support the released codebase. In fact, I believe the readme on it said just that.

Warpnow/Brinson, you've gone from childish goofball propaganda artist to a complete liar. Pretending to be a "new" user is just lame...

Next time, have the cojones to put your name on your antics.

One forum account per customer is the rule. Your Brinson account is banned for that reason.

As for the idea itself, I can name at least two other MUDs running or attempting to run versions of the older released FL codebase. The administration has never opposed it nor spoken against it, provided the conditions of accreditation that Virigoth spelled out are properly followed.

As for Warpnow attempting same, I wish you better luck than you had last time you undertook such an endeavor. As I recall, that group did exactly what this administration has been repeatedly accused of doing, that is, picking our friends for key positions on the staff (a completely erroneous claim, by the way). As I also recall, that attempt at MUDdom self-destructed due to a clash of the personalities involved and failed to amount to anything.

And yet, FL and this staff, are still clicking right along.
