Nekky
Hey all, I was just wondering. Do people think that thieves who take a less popular trap selection can be effective? I'm talking amnesia charm, antimagic, devil wheel, that sort of thing. Not your typical antimagic - backstab - flee into chesbuster combination. I know there are other cool traps out there, but can thieves really afford to select them instead of the power house traps? Let me know what you think. Iusedtobesomebody
it all depends on how you are going to play your thief. steal/pry way? maybe the other ones are going to be better? a melee killer? the typical am/cb way might be more effective. also depends on what YOU want to play. just pick what you want to, then show everybody what they're missing. Nekky
I want to do that, I just want to know if people think its a possibility.
Lexi
A thief don't really need traps to be annoying/effective. Some people were really succesfull with amnesia, chestbuster, other with antimagic. That's why people pick them, I think. Personally, I think Devil's Wheel could be very lethal in certain situations, especially if you like to abuse [edited: too much info here]. Questioner
heh! Blackspore is a fun one to put in towns where people congregate. Never know what hit them! Thief traps depend on the player, what type of thief they want, and what combo they are playing. I personally like the huge dam traps cause I can just imagine them sitting at their comp staring at the red letters on the screen saying to themselves what the f*** was that?!? HBwillie
It's all about what makes your thief fun for you. I prefer to play gimped classes sometimes and make uncommon choices for intervention, rage focus, thief traps, etc. It spices things up a little. Nekky
I like spicing things up a little as well, but it's no fun if you're just a complete gimp. Any more opinions? Especially people who've played thieves.
MysticR
My suggestion is you take a 50, look for common situations, and look for applications for your traps that take advantage of those situations.
Fiere
Just be careful. I chose the wrong selection for my thief, and while it wasn't bad, it wasn't what I expected, and I was slightly disappointed.
Imoutgoodbye
Personally....pick whatever's gonna annoy the living $&*# out of people. That's what thieves are best at.
Nekky
I'm talking valid PK, not just annoying and stealing.
The Forsaken
Amnesia charm is pretty sweet when you think about it.
Deykari
I don't think it's a case of one set of traps being stronger than over. I think a lot of thieves take anti-magic and chestbuster because let's be fair, who can turn down an AM trap removing sanc & poison, getting blackjacked, opening with a dual-backstab and running into a chestbuster? It's overloading the damage onto them so that they are on the run, and the thief can chase. The other traps, though I haven't personally played a thief at pinn, can be just as effective (I have found in their uses against me), though in different ways. Kyzarius
Amnesia trap is wicked awesome when it hits. I have been on both ends of this wicked device, and personally its quite potent when used against the right classes.
