Music Review

This is a blatant self-plug I know. Sue me. :D

With our band, we have finally have our first few tracks recorded and on CD/internet. Our style differs slightly from song to song (there's only five recoreded, we have a lot more) but for the most, we're just a rock band with a few elements of spice (bit of blues influences, bit of funk, bit of other stuff) added into the mix. If anyone cares to listen, four of our tracks are on:

http://www.myspace.com/kravemusic (Our recorded tracks are a little more 'effecty' than the real thing - on stage, we're more raw :P)

Basically, I'm just looking for any comments (or constructive criticism - I can take a roasting, you know :D) if anyone cares to leave any.

Thanks,

Dey

P.S: I'm the lead guitarist.

Well i play in a bad too so i know how good feed back is.

What i like in general:

The volume of the bass guitar.

The vocalists vocals. He can sing very well which you don't get often because people just fix it up in recording.

Overall mix sounds good.

Godsend:

Can only hear one layer of guitar... if you have 2 guitarists i think you should use them more.

Bit slow for my liking (personal taste)

Chords structure is great, seems very blues inclined.

Float on

ick Vocals... sound too country or like lemmy or something. Tell ur singer not to sing like that.

I like the chorus vocals! just not the verse

Catchy beat.

Nice solo...bit of shread

Nice Verse Riff

Again other than the solo any point of 2 guitars?

Really digging the bass volume level.

Infected Soul

Funky!!!!!!

Rockn bass jive (lol)

Needs more riffs gets a little boring.

No... It just started rocking out 2 mins in (chorus?)

rocking out bit isn't long enough ;)

woo chorus again

only 1 guitar layer!!!

Free Wheel'n Wonder

Love the guitar

best song!

ahh 2 guitars... dual soloing nice.

Free wheeling is the best song. (i play guitar so im biased)

You don't really sound like a copy of any bands i have heard of. Certainly not any of the ones that you said inspired you. Thats a good thing.

Really need to use both your guitarists.

I think the songs all sound like they could be on an album together even with the slight differences in styles (blues to funk).

I don't play bass and i love the bass in your recordings. It adds a lot to the songs and i think without it most of the songs would sound a little boring.

Try changes riffs more often (personal taste) and more riffs per song (more personal taste)

Drums need more symbol work (personal taste) But overall do the job in keeping in time and keeping everyone else in time. It sounds like you have been playing for at least a year.

Overall if you don't get a recording deal it would be a crime. But i guess people with talent don't get contracts anymore.

Goodluck!

Your comments are appreciated; it's harder than you'd think to get honest feedback these days..

Teurlain/Merriwren: Thanks a lot. It's always good to hear people appreciate what you're doing. :D

p3zd1sp3nx0r: And thanks to you too. It's also always good to get some good constructive feedback. :)

I think most of what you say, I agree with. Since we recorded our tracks, we have changed things around a little bit (mostly in terms of how each guitarist can compliment each other, like you mentioned).

The only thing I find strange, is that in all our songs, both guitarists are always playing together, and on Godsend, and parts of Infected Soul, it IS only one guitar layer. I'm not sure why because both parts were recorded. But what do I know; I'm biased towards the guitar aspect too... :-D

Again, thanks a lot for your feedback. If it pertains to the music, and and all comments are welcome.

Grim Reefer

Ahh this is more like music I listen to.

In Between Heaven and Hell:

I like the start of the song the pick slide in is a good touch

Wish the drums were recorder properly

I like the vocals. I like the way your vocalist isn't 1 dimensional. He has quite a few levels of growling and screaming which is really good. I think a lot of singers are boring when they growl in one pitch the whole time. :D

Can't really hear the bass....it is death metal I guess.

Cool triplets! not found much in death metal.

You sound like a super-heavy iron maiden.

Cool melodic break down into solo.

I don’t like the sound of the guitar solo/outro part.

This Curse:

Sounds a bit like in flames old stuff (the good stuff)

pinch harmonics etc. all good

I really like your guitar riffs.

Harmonising guitars rocks!

ha! in stereo

Solo isn't loud enough

End of this sound doesn't really go anywhere

Strangled

Thankfully the drums sound a little better (buy a new tama kit?)

Solo not loud enough again

I think you have a good mix in this sound other than the solo

Overall:

Great sound. You have two great guitarists. Not sure about bass because its hard to hear unless you really want to. I hate the sound of the drums, but i can hear them in my head with a thundering double bass and reakon they'd be sweet if it was recorder properly. The vocals are really good, im glad to hear bands that don't have one dimensional vocalists.

With this sort of music you really need to have a really good mix because a lot is lost in down tuned guitars with hell-distortion. I really wish the drums were recorder well!! Hehe. Nice mix of riffs.

anyway...

Who am i to say anything. You have a recording contract.. i dont. hehe

Keep up the good work.
