ranger/monk

The stance you choose will be of little consequences after 3 - 5 rounds vs a well played zerk....

bologna.

100% anatomy, 100% horse , 100% defences....empower defensive go horse / mantis and a zerker will be slapping himself so much he will wish he never autoraged. Go offensive and your paste in this case...

as for the ranger, ONE effective tactic is defensive, drunken. The drunken defence is like a dodge, which is good for the pets. Plus your kick can lag. A general pointer when fighitng any pet race (this from someone who loves kicking butt with a necro) is to flee and attack and flee and attack, get him focused on gathering his pets...or better yet...more focused on you than the pets and you can put them to rest. Of course as a monk you should also ALWAYS DISARM.

equipping a monk is easy, and you should be sure to boost your hit-dam as much as possible. BUT, all is naught if you dont have good anatomy. :D

As far as I can recall, mantis doesn't stop haymakers, Kyzarius. L-A's point is that a zerk will KNOW to haymaker a monk as soon as he can in the fight. Attack, rage, haymaker. If you can get one round in raged against an unstanced, unsanced monk, you can drop HUNDREDS of hp of damage on him without trouble. Zerks have far more hp than monks for the reason that they NEED it. They are, in my opinion, the single most offensively-minded class in the game.

mantis will turn a haymaker, bodyslam, bash, headbutt, trip, air thrash, assasination, strangle, blackjack etc etc etc...now it will only turn the first one...but it will.

and this is presuming that the monk does get hit with a haymaker that it will manage to hit stance...of course these kinds of comparisons are pointless as "one up to the next" will always go till time ends...or one person gets bored with it...

of course again, the point of argument was what stance is best against a berserker...in this case horse/defensive or if your brave drunken/defensive (so you can lag). haymaker landing or no, this is your best chance in the given scenario, and its the most fun especially if your fighting an ogre berserker wielding a magic weapon so he can get around your monkish insane AC... the main point is a monk in horse with 100% anatomy is nie on impossible to hit with melee, and when you do "hit" there is the added chance for it to turn..a very very good chance mind you if fully trained. A raging berserker is in a tough spot against a horse empowered monk, there is no questioning it.

Mantis will not turn headbutt or haymaker (and you can't open with these anyway). If you are truly worried about mantis let the monk initiate combat.

Horse for 5 rounds while the zerk rage;dirt;haymaker will not kill the zerk but they may kill you in the following round. If they don't they will chase relying on autoattack from rage and spamming directions and slam . One slam while you are unsanc'd/unstanced vs a raged zerk and you will not get away.

IMHO you best bet is to do like Viri said in monk vs warrior: Prep up, put on dragon and shove that Phantom Dragon up the zerks @$$!!

ummm one point to make but haymaker does not take you out of empowerment....simply stance and sanctuary which if you put up stance you're fine for about 3 rounds then flee and put up sanc....then you're all good again. So that slamming thing doesn't actually work if you're in defensive and with no stance.

Yes' date=' but no horse and no sanc for a round against a raged zerk equals PAIN. LOTS AND LOTS OF PAIN.[/quote']

I used the same tactic with my zerk against some of the monks that were about in my time and it worked a treat. Land that haymaker and unless the monk hasn't lagged theirself with a skill AND has good reflexes, they're going to take at least one round of hardcore damage whilst you're raged. So even if you do flee, put your stance/sanc back up, you've still lost a ton of health.
