roma
Someone told me in game that you can call a mammoth in a certain area. Seemed to work alright for a while and now I can't find any. Been wandering around other areas and still can't locate one. What's the deal with beast call? Do different beasts really hang out in certain spots? Do they migrate? Did the white man kill off all the mammoths?

Chromatic
It's weird for me, too, My ranger almost always called a mammoth first...and now he's callin ravens and wyverns again.
Questioner
type "beast mammoth" Always works for me. Though my ranger was a beastmaster so I dun know if your not. Maybe bad luck?
The Forsaken
I allways it assumed the beast you called had something to do with the level of the area, dunno, just me guessing.
WagesofSin
I always found that the farther from civilization you go you get a better chance of getting a mammoth.
corpsestomp
It's level and area dependant, basically all that can be said.
Questioner
I found that by going into a forest where a leopard was, you'd call a leopard more often, I think? Just try it out and you'll know I guess.

Ex-D&Der
I generally found that it was completely random, and that calling a specific beast usually failed. The one exception to this was if you released a beast and then called another. You almost always called the same beast.

I'd catch them smirking at other beasts and not rescuing me when I was getting my *** kicked.
Ex-D&Der
One other thing--luck seemed to be a factor, or at least that's what I would assume was the explanation for having rashes of good beasts and bad beasts. Never looked at my "luck" score, just chalked it up to luck. When they got attitude with me seemed to be kind of random as well. Releasing them didn't really do any good. The one time I tried that he just complained.
Questioner
Jeez! What kind of rangers are you all? Just beast call ravens till bout 80% proficiency, then start with some wyverns and displacers to 90% and then always try to call a leopard till 95% and then mammoths! Iusedtobesomebody
1. for leopards, i always yell, "here kitty, kitty" while holding a small mouse. 2. for mammoths, i usually gather about 15 peanuts. i drop them all on the ground, then camo. wait 2-3 hours. then yell, "blonkeywan!". i can then call a mammoth everytime without fail. 3. if you master beast call, there is a 'hidden' beast you can call. most people do not know this. once it's 100%, go to the Duergar hometown. find the dancehall, and purchase all the pink items. wear ONLY these items, while holding Mr. Halon's cigar, and wielding the wand of assassinate, and beast call. you can call a beast (whose name i cannot give out) who hits like a Triton/Warlock and bashes/trips/dirts. good luck,
Questioner
Oh really! I didn't know! But I don't think the imms like it when you give out secrets like that! Chayesh will be made you posted that secret!
Calron
The type of area/terrain you are affects the overall chance to succeed. The type of beast is based on the roll (affected by things like proficiency, etc.) you get, but keep in mind that all the beasts are different in terms of hit/dam/hp and a couple other things. Ravens PWN!

Evangelion
I'm disappointed in you, Chayesh. I thought you'd had enough healer tea parties in Shasarazade to know it's called a Cooshie.

KRins
Sorry to fire up an old thread, but I was wondering if beast call works for all the beasts in the help file. Haven't had a lot of ranger experience, but I haven't seen most of the beasts eg. hippogryph, umber hulk. Just wondering.
Nekky
Back when I had a ranger in 2.0, the beasts were align specific. Evil beasts were umber hulks, nightmares, and other things. Neutral beasts were just the same, and I can't remember what goodie beasts were ... I used to have nightmares and umber hulks all the time, was cool. Pali
Recently had an evil ranger, and none of the evil beasts seemed to work. Could only call the regular beasts.
Nekky
Yeah, I think they were buggy for some reason and now all rangers have the old beasts back.
The Greased Weasel
Yeah the code for them was very buggy so it was taken out, though I did like it added just a neat cosmetic rp aspect to things
Chromatic
No. Only the basic ones. The others, as the other threads have said. were supposed to be alignment based but there were too many bugs.
