EtsoShex
I realize that promoting one's self on MySpace is a bit...odd, but I'd like your input on the most recent topic I spoke about on my "Audio Blog". It talks about (lots of things, but mainly) how you should do what you're passionate about, etc., and I'd like to see what you guys think about what I've said, and how you would improve it, etc. The url's www.myspace.com/phillipmorephilling You don't have to be my friend, or tell anybody, or anything whatsoever, I'd just like you to listen, and hear your thoughts. Thanks, EtsoShex.
WarriorCleric
First comment, holy ****... I'm jesus... and This man's lawyers might have something to speak to you about regarding 'today's' theme: Alright, first real serious comment, I would recomend getting off myspace, for about five bucks a month you can get your own webspace and domain, make your own website. It's not that hard and I think it would be a decent site if you combined your different myspace pages. I enjoyed listening to it, I agree with it for the most part. Deprissed I am going to school, majoring in Math, Mathematicaly focused economics to get a job that allows me to survive so that I can support my hobbies on top of my needs, because Economics and Math interests me, and this is what I feel like doing. Lipsynch Simpson, heh. Bill Hicks. Make that T-Shirt, I hate Money, and you will probably make money. What kind of place is that where you live? Those are some ****ed up people. And why did the creator of Buffy beat you up in an alley? (Sorry, couldn't resist) It was fun listening to them. I seriously think you should do your own webpage instead of doing this through myspace. WC
EtsoShex
I will, eventually. I'm just waiting for my job to quit being stupid so that I can actually pay for webspace.
bavarianbrew
I'm listening. How do you do Rock Star well? *progress report* ...you're still working things out. As I listen to you, I can imagine you in some automated water tank, you've dislodged the gag-ball but still wear the high heels. The FBI has just kicked down the silo door. Water begins to fill the tank. *progress report* ...you've finished. My thoughts are many. I do like your demeanor to begin with. You said you are into music, that's great! As for myself, I enjoy writing, traveling and cinema. I've finished graduate school in the process. My so-called degrees are worthless, unless in Japan (a side note, Japan seems to be one of the only countries where a humanities/artistic degree can land you the job). In anycase, I have studied what I love. I'm thinking about returning for more advanced study. People ask, "Great, what will you do with your degree?" I tell them I'll frame it. Most people miss the point of education. That is why most people do not pursue it. Since I am involved in the arts. I have some idea of the politics and the "making it" process. It can be done. Anything can be done! However, you have to be the content provider. With that said, I believe that being a performer is the hardest of all pursuits. However, those that can improvise are the most successful. Again they provide content. And with all careers, you must go where the jobs are. There are exceptions, but only a few. It's funny, when I cast for productions here in Los Angeles, I say in the casting call, "Local Talent Only." Still I will receive a hundred headshots from BFE, Kentucky! So do you see what I'm saying. Go to where you'll be most successful. You also have to network. Like my mentor said, "Go to Hollywood, know it (make friends) and then you can move anywhere you want." Anyways, in my industry, people want to know they can trust you, though it doesn't take much. So. If you do not know what you enjoy, then I suggest you try everything. Reading helps too. Find like-minded people, and see how those who are successfully doing what you want have risen in their career. Now, if you enjoy playing the guitar, what makes you so special. Where's your content? Oh, and before I forget. There are loads of Fame and Fortune seekers. They wanna be the Star, not the actor. They wanna be the Rock Star, not the musician. On an on, ... you'll find them everywhere. It's all about perceived comfort for these Starlets, not working hard, going to school, doing the dumb job and getting some experience, no! Look at American Idol culture. None of the performers want to be the artist, they want to be the Star. Thank God someone crushes them while they're still young.
EtsoShex
I understand/agree with most of what you said, Brew, but I don't get what you're talking about when you say "content", and ask where mine is. Do you mean where is the substance in my talks, or are you asking where I'm headed? WarriorCleric
Well, some people may scoff at it, but I enjoy godaddy. Their economy plan is four bucks a month, and you can get 10 or 20% off if you pay for a year or two at a time. On this plan you get 5gigs of space, 250 gigs of transfer and email accounts (whatever@mywebsitename.com) . 5 gigs is a lot in my opinion, but if you go upto 7 bucks a month you get 100gigs of storage and 1000 gigs of transfer. As far as godaddy's service, they have called me three times in the last year just checking up, seeing if I have any questions or complaints. And once they called to inform me their was a problem, they were sorry, and it was being fixed as we spoke. So basicly, get a domain name. (the actual websitename.com), get a hosting plan(go with the economy plan, you can always upgrade later). Link em together, and this is very easy to do. Then you just upload your html to your host space via ftp. If you want a more dynamic page, you use some content management systems and mysql databases, but it's all really easy to do.
