Mister E
Im seriously fed up. No matter what race or class I play the same thing happens. I get killed and fulled and its never even a real battle. When Im winning (rare) I cant close, when im losing (often) I can occasionally escape. But the VAST majority of my deaths on any char are ridiculously fast. I have noone to blame but me, either I was ranks down or caught with my pants down, but the upper hand is not something I have ever enjoyed here and I no longer wish to try and obtain it. There are things in life that would make me very happy and would not even require as much time as I put in here. It will be hard to stop, as I think this is a very well made game, but time and time again I just see people who are looking for a cheap and eays kill. I am proud to say I was not one of those players, I tried to pk up, challenge myself, but in vain it seems, because it got me nowhere but one life less at my pit. Anyway, I cant believe i've been playing here for over a year. I would like to say good bye to you all, and wish you all the best. Immortals, you do a good job. I was glad to play in your world. Players, many of you are very talented in this game and I have a lot of respect for that. I just cannot justify spending more years of my life trying to reach the upper level. Maybe if I had started playing here earlier I would know more about the game, but that cannot be helped. I set a delpass on my latest, so please deny him. /---------------\/----------------------------------------------\ | Yessuran || the Doomblade | \---------------/\----------------------------------------------/ | Str: 18(18) || Level: 50 Sex: M Age : 547(81h) | | Int: 24(24) || Class: blademaster Ethos: chaotic | | Wis: 20(20) || Race : drow Align: evil | | Dex: 24(24) || Hp : 367/742 Exp : 52348/643252 | | Con: 14(14) || Mana : 727/727 | \ Lck: [||||--] \/ Move : 404/404 +Hit: 3 +Dam: 4 / /---------------/\------------------/\--------------------------\ | ARMOR || SAVES || Deity : Chayesh | | Slash : -5 || Spell : 0 || Faith : Scourge | | Pierce: -5 || Afflictive : 0 || Weight: 0/325 | | Blunt : -5 || Maledictive: 0 || Items : 0/41 | | Magic : -5 || Mental : 0 || Prac : 14 Train: 0 | | Weapon: low || Pos: middle || Gold : 0 | \---------------\/------------------\/--------------------------/ / Condition: You have a few cuts and bruises. \ | Anatomy :Mob Human Elf Dwarf DemiHum Giant Beast Flying Uniqu | | 20 97 103 16 4 110 24 48 14 | | [WARMASTER] forces are aiding your feet and stamina. | \---------------------------------------------------------------/ dagger 100 polearm 100 spear 100 sword 100 disarm 76 dodge 100 hand to hand 100 parry 100 trip 95 fast healing 95 haggle 78 lore 76 meditation 100 recall 100 blind fighting 100 counter 79 acupuncture 81 charge 100 dual parry 100 anatomy 100 double grip 100 balance 81 two handed 100 doublesheath 75 onslaught 100 chop 100 bladerush 100 backpin 87 pinwheel 82 critical strike 100 bladework 100 footwork 100 battle stance 100 avatar of steel 83 powerstrike 100 deathweaver 100 bladestorm 78 ironarm 75 Kyousanken 100 shadowdancer 100 doomsinger 100 kairishi 100 vigil 75 twin counter 87 predict 100 snakespeed 75 spellkiller 75 deathstrike 76 human expert 100 giant expert 100 elf master 100 blood vow 100 battlesphere 88 battlefocus 90 battletrance 88 It has been a bumpy road, but its now a dead end. Mister E
I had a good feeling about that one, but these highs and lows are too much. I seriously need some time away. This is supposed to be a game, but for me at least it was a way of life and and unfullfilled one at that.
Chayesh
There is one thing I can tell you with complete confidence. This is a game and shouldn't be anyone's life. Life's in color. Check it out.
Grumpy
If you think is game is no longer fun, fine. But dying too much should never be an excuse. We have a class called healers after all. Well I consider myself to be pretty much on top of this pk thing, so I'll give you an advice, Mister E. Play a evil cleric. Right now they are a really good deal, good defense and good offense. Perfect class to get a feel of pk. Ye come back when you have let off some steam. Ibdivine
Ive been here since 1.0, and I still suck at PK so don't feel bad.
The Forsaken
I can assume that you post says you are leaving cause you get killed to much. But I can also assume you havn't died more than 10 times in the course of your chars lifetime considering your condition. I foought ya once, you were pretty good. This sounds more like a rage delete more than anything. And by the way, taking on 3 people at once is ballsy, but nothing to get pissed off about if you lose. Magick
I concur. Sounds like a rage delete on a delpassed char. You get tired of the ups and downs? You feel like you've got more downs than ups? Instead of deleting and/or asking for a pwipe, take a 3 month vacation. See the world. Find a guy/girl. Marry them. Then diviorce them <24 hours later. Rob a bank. Tell the police that your motive was to get those pesky Tribunals out of the city. (On second thought, don't rob a bank.) Do SOMEthing other than FL. When you feel like it's been long enough, come back. In short, put the char on the shelf and walk away for a while. I do wish that more people would condie than rage-delete. Tantangel
If you ever play a blademaster again, make sure to get all your anats up to 100 at the least. They help you a great deal compared to what you had them at. That might have been one of the main reasons why fighting people became so hard. Ex-D&Der
I would go with Sirant's old advice here and try a human cleric. They're much easier to rank and stay alive with. And if you play a chaotic evil one you can also get the hang of PK with few restrictions. PK has a lot of factors that go into it besides skill. Some class/race/cabal combinations are much harder to stay alive with than others, and some are much easier to get kills with than others. Often the ones easiest to PK with are not easy to survive with. I've played half a dozen different kinds of rangers, and the last one I've played has been the most unsuccessful since the first one I played, which was totally inept at PK. Every other ranger I've played since has been more successful at PK than this one. The reason is 1) choice of the most difficult targets possible and 2) lack of [identifying characteristic I don't want to mention]. The most successful PKer I had--in terms of numbers anyway--was an ogre Syndicate. Why? You get lots of skills that help you PK and lots of opponents that are totally unprepared and unskilled. Point is that my skill level kind of plateaued after a certain point, but my PK results have varied greatly. One other piece of advice. Take a break from combinations that you are emotionally invested in. Pick something that you always wanted to play but that you don't really care if you aren't very successful in PK with. Try a human thief. Or a bard. Or a dwarf cleric. The more cliche the better. Get to 50, do some PK, and enjoy yourself. If you get sick of it, try another. I find I can't even really play rangers any more because I feel like I'm supposed to be successful at it, and when I'm not, I get really pissed. So I play something else, and enjoy the game again. Finally, I would advise against marathon FL. Don't play it when you're supposed to be working or studying. If you really limit it to those times when you have time for it, you won't feel like you've wasted your time for nothing if you're not becoming one of the elite players. That thought in the back of your mind that "cripes, I've blown my life for this?" invests the game with displaced significance that makes reactions to pdeaths far more emotional than they should be. FatMike
Look I am the worlds worst for things like this so I can give you a little advice even if I can't follow it. The only thing you can do when you put yourself in a situation like this is to stop playing for awhile, more than a couple of days. I have gotten so fed up with what I thought should be good pking characters that I delete or password change and go about my business with something else, I've gotten so fed up that I've taken breaks up to and including 6 months away. Take however long you think it's necessary and then come on back, it won't take you long to get back into the swing of things Pick an rp that isn't 100% pk oriented and you'll have alot more fun. Don't expect to kill everyone you go up against because it ain't gonna happen and try and learn from each and every death you take, or each and every battle you get your *** whipped in and have to flee. I still put 110% in a character and I still get hopelessly upset when things don't go as planned or I take a few stupid deaths. And I still rage delete(see Dyntia, though I loved that little gnome) and I still regret each and every one. Pick yourself up, get back on your feet and keep trying is the best advice I can give you. Don't shelve a character and come back to it weeks or months later, so much changes in that period of time that you lose a part of the character if you know what I mean. If you're not having fun, roll something else and focus on it and keep an old character to fool around with. There's a helluva lot more important things than FL out there in life, but we do love this place with a passion so I understand exactly where you are coming from. I've overcome a little of the problem you're having and I'm having more fun now and I hope you can do the same.
Teralis
I dont know I thought you were doing ok, but hay if you dont want to be pkd then roll an adventurer, that is what they are there for then if you decide to grow more change it to a class you think you would like to play. Mister E
I dont know I thought you were doing ok' date=' but hay if you dont want to be pkd then roll an adventurer, that is what they are there for then if you decide to grow more change it to a class you think you would like to play.[/quote'] If I didnt want to be pked I would not have ever played this mud at all. I am just sick of how it happens to me. I have tried a lot of combo's with the same result. You wont see me with an adventurer so I can log without pk, that I can guarantee. But until I work through my own "shtick" and either figure out a way to forget about my ego or figure out a way to win once in a while, I wont be playing like I have. And knowing me, I wont be able to ignore my ego at all, so the latter will have to happen if I am going to play. This place is so damn addictive I think about constantly!!! What a perdicament
random_clown
I believe the same disappointment and frustration is key to the greater enjoyment of a mud as well. When I compare MUDs with other online games I've played(especially the newer ones now) the pk is unstatisfying for the same reason that MUD pk can be so annoying. The stakes are higher, which makes the lows even lower, and the highs extremely great. When it comes down to where there is nothing to lose, and pk is just 'easy', that takes out the risk factors and kills the adrenaline and rush of pking. I have played several characters where PK was almost to that degree of ease, and trust me, having a character that is dominating in pk gets old quick. Without the challenge, risk...and the hunger for greatness, a character gets stale PvP wise pretty quick. Dying for some of my characters has been the most refreshing thing that has happened. I fight much better(more strategic) when I am not completely pimped out. I have a much greater drive to win as well. While death may drive that stake through your heart, it only makes the comeback all that sweeter.
Mister E
Well, I have never been pimped out or been dominating, so I wouldnt now the feeling. Ibdivine
All I can say is to whoever reads this, DONT delete or have denied. I deleted Awendris not long ago, and since then I have not much heart at all to play the game. I wish to all hell and back that I could play that char again, if I would have just taken the time to relax, think about the situation, and get another idea rolling. Instead I dleeted, and 30 minutes later the ideas of what I COULD have done started rolling in. Stick with it, I have learned that. Heck my human is now 200+ years old

What a perdicament  Dont get me wrong I know exaclty how you feel. I wasnt good at any pking for the first 3 or 4 years of my 8 year mudding experience however with time I learned where to get things, then learned what I needed, then I started logging my battles and studying them to see what I did wrong what I could have done better. I guess what I am trying to say it practice makes purfect. What I did was made a character, got to 50, and attacked everyone sometimes I died sometimes I won. Even when I had died I had at that time learned how to armor myself back up in about a half an hour (rt) with decent and some rares armor. You have to look at it this way not everyone is a pk powerhouse, everyone gets owned once in awhile, and at some times gets owned all the time. I once played an undead thief back in 1.0 that I could beat just about anyone with and this was before traps came which should have made things easier now. Not the case I made a thief and won a great deal of battles but basically got owned alot. Still play it but have been disheartened and am on another project. So all in all, I just look at this as it truely is a game, a break from reality where I can do things to people in fake world that I wish I could do to some people IRL but cant due to prison, morals, obligations. etc... etc.... Just have fun. I seem to be rambleing right now so ill leave it at that.
