necromancer paths

Don't see too many of this guild. Think it would he nice for one of the mage classes get a skill tree boost. I don't have a list of ideas. Nothing that would make them super op ect. Still, I've seen posts before to rework the class. And willing to test it out if need be. Hope some people can flesh out ideas but I think three paths,

animator, which would focus on zombies

Cool name, focuses on mals

Another epic name, focuses on something else.

Sorry I'm not that guy able to list out hundreds of ideas. Just throwing on the general one.

As it stands, a Necro REQUIRES friends to become powerful. I don't mean for Gear trips, I mean to get zombies - one could argue that getting zombies is the same thing as getting gear, but it isn't. There are things that prevent you from getting full looted, there is nothing to prevent you from losing all of your zombies. I'd like to see the difficulty of getting zombies lowered or the dependence (some would argue that necros are fine without them - and shame on you) on zombies be reduced. I recently faced one of MF's old Necros - best necro player in the game - and he did absolutely nothing to me. This class is broken.

Guess I have to start playing necros since the general consensus is they suck. I don't think any class sucks. I just think some are harder to play and require a close attention to details.

IMMs have been saying there's going to be a necro overhaul for a while now...not sure when, but it's coming.

Im tired of everyone being all over this mindflayer guy's nuts (if it even is a guy, I dunno) so I guess I gotta roll one up.

The fact is they are highly dependent on others for even PK abilty to defend themselves. EVEN more for the potential to take some people down. Hell, they don't even get dodge heh. The point is I would think it be nice to have some paths here- due to the vast area necromancy can cover. Nameless by all means roll one up and do well like all the characters that you do, but we all don't share your gift of pwnage.

On one hand, having help to get pets is a nice advantage, but everyone needs help to reach that top level. maybe 3 people I know of in ten years have the ability to solo any area of FL, and that is with very specific combos. Patience, and prep are what FL is about. You might not be able to run around with traven, shudde, and gasterride, but you can run around with 3 other zombies, and require more patience, and tactics in order to win, I am willing to make a bet that I can do at least decent with any race of necro, and I bet I can do it without zombies at all.

This thread is meant to offer ideas for paths. Though again I do not doubt your ablities let's try to keep it to suggestions.

Animator = Creates powerful undead from the corpses of powerful creatures. This we have, this is quite viable in PK and RP. I have seen very powerful Necromancers although the creation of Blademasters stole some of their power. Illithid and drow vulns combined with an anatomy based class and all.

Paths that could be interesting;

Cultist = Summons/or charms powerful demons to do their bidding. (This eliminates the need for "friends" to reacquire followers, allowing the necromancer to quickly get back into the game. Not to mention the added RP angle.

Blighter = This necromancer is consumed with the rot of the natural world. Mal focused, this type of mage intends to see plagues, pestilence, famine, and war bring the living world of Aabahran to its knees. I would add a high level spell to allow this one to summon one of the four horseman of the apocalypse to aid them in their endeavors. Again no friends needed to gather corpses.

Just sharing a couple of Ideas.

My idea is that people give a class time, and effort before jumping aboard the change it bandwagon.

Please do not assume I am suggesting you did not give any effort to making a successful necromancer. That is not what I am saying in the slightest. But what I am saying is you see alot of people who will suggest some type of class or mechanic change, without actual justification beyond an opinion earned from playing 1-0 of the class. You simply cannot be strong with a character without grinding through at least one to level 50, then condead. My first 3 bmgs where so god awful I barely remember their names. My first berserker? Utter crap. First warrior? PPPOOOOOOOOOPPPP. It took me probably 7-8 years here before I got to the point where I can competitively play most classes, in those 7-8 years I played those classes badly, and learned from it. The same thing is applied to anything. Have you heard of the 1500 hour rule? Basically it theorizes that anyone who spends 1500 hours doing one thing will be an expert, or a professional regarding that. Meaning you could be a pro golfer in 1500 hours of only golf. Most of the issue people have with classes can be traced to the fact that they are in hour 1-100 of 1500.

What I think would be both interesting, and would alleviate the need for zombie-aid is get rid of base zombies all together. You make a zombie, then you can customize each one to do what you want. You need 3 bashers? Boom, you make 3 giant bashers. Maybe you want 2 bashers and a tripper? Boom got it. You need 3 massive meatshields? No problem. You need 3 mobs that hit like freight trains? Got it. But each pro comes with a con. +damage = -health, + bash = -base attacks, Huge health = lower damage etc etc.

I am willing to make a bet that I can do at least decent with any race of necro' date=' and I bet [b']I can do it without zombies at all.

That is next to impossible with today players expertise.

There are very few newbies who will fall to a solo necro.

Save yourself the trouble, and just roll us a FG fury zerk in Reaver.

You've gotten pretty decent Nameless, but don't go overestimating your own abilities. No zombies at all? So..you'll be pword-kill spamming on everyone. That's..stupid.

But, I like that idea of custom zombies. Something tells me Nepharak can have a HUGE impact on the enhancements and modifications of zombies if this is the course of action.

Yeah, competition is pretty tough these days Nameless. Just take a look at Tricks R.I.P. list. Think a zombieless necro could take out those badboys?

Very good ideas, love the idea of the cultist. Could have a vellum count of like some number for upgrades.

Nameless, you never seize to make me laugh nor suprise me. IRS already been Dias the class is getting reworked. Like the input though with the customizable zombies.

Alright, thats it. The gauntlet has been thrown, repeatedly. You know I can stay away from FL when I just think about playing, but when I get a bandwagon of folks telling me I can't, it just makes me go insane. I cannot resist rolling something.

Stop derailing man. It's already been stated necros are getting work.
