Races and their stats

I was thinking about something the other day. Does maybe the actual race itself (not thinking about stats) have a bearing on stat gains per level?

For example, both Faeries and Elves have 25/20 for int and wis respectively, yet I hear that a Faerie can have a massive manabase at pinn (more than Elf?).

Also, Dwarves have 25 con, Ogres 24, yet Ogres gain more HP/level. Doesn't seem to make sense to me unless in regards to the race, there are more factors than just con that determine your HP gain per level (and I don't mean like luck or any other random stuff - I mean why an Ogre will consistently gain more HP per level than a Dwarf, even though they have less con).

Well, the ogre over dwarf thing is fairly easy to explain.

"Having a similiar frame, they possess an incredible metabolism

granting them great strength and speed. They heal at an unheard

of rate while possesing a consitution and health that far

surpasses any other race. This vitality comes at a cost, as

they are quite vulnerable to magic in all its forms."

-help Ogre

Ogres can become:

Warriors, Rangers, and Berserkers.

Dwarves can be the following classes:

Warrior, Cleric, Bard, Blademaster and Berserker.

So lore-wise, Ogres are renowned for insane HP. Dwarfs not so much. Also, this might not be as widely known, but what class you have will affect hp gain. Generally, berserkers will gain more hp than warriors. So an ogre berserker will have more hp than a ogre warrior, without trains. Dwarves can be clerics, bards, and blademasters, which don't have so much hp. I think a berserker dwarf will be able to compare to an ogre berserker fairly well.

Hope this explains a bit.

On another note, just kind of on topic. I know stats are implemented for balance purposes and whatever else, but I was wondering why a gnome race, gets more strength than a halfling? I mean, isn't a gnome alot smaller than a halfling? Yeah, its only one more strength, but really shouldn't they be somewhere in between the faerie and the halfling? Also, aren't gnomes suppose to be quick footed people, does 18 dex really suit their race?

You're thinking garden gnomes. Gnomes in fantasy/d&d (which FL has its roots in) are about dwarf size, really, and can be fairly tough/strong. Halflings are not only small, but weak, but make up for it with incredible speed. Gnomes, on the other hand, are somewhat stronger than halflings/more muscular, but much slower.
