That's because in the game, it's a non-issue. Gods are obviously present and play an integral part of the game. You try telling Anithraril that he doesn't exist when he comes down and see what happens ;).

On the other hand though, it seems that the obviousness of the gods is more OOC than IC. I thought of playing an atheist that doesn't believe in the gods and wants to remove such "superstitions" from Aabahran but the mechanics of the game make it impossible. How do you explain corpses and equipment disappearing when you offer them as a sacrifice to the gods? Warcries are coded to yell out a god. Resurrections pose a problem too since it's your god that decides to give you another chance.

I suppose you could fudge it. Just say you're burning/breaking a corpse/weapon when you sacrifice it, or that you do not remember how you came back to life. Though it doesn't work so well.

Check "help atheism" to see how atheism fits into the fantasy world in FL. In short, an atheist in Aabahran recognizes that there are very powerful beings in the heavens/hells/wherever. But the atheist also believes that these beings were mortals once, and that any mortal can discover how to become a "god" as well.

I have a character at current with that very same viewpoint, actually.
