Sick ****ers

Big news story in my area currently is that 16-year old boy came to my town to visit some family in the area. Two 17-year old boys jumped him, dragged him to their flat, beat him until his limbs were broken, then whipped him with electrical cables and cut him with knives, before pouring perfume into the cuts and making him drink bleach. They recorded the whole lot on camera too. It was all done for no reason either, it was just some random kid.

What sort of sick ****er does something like that? The film they recorded got sent around on mobile phones and thankfully, somebody who saw the film noticed the two boys who did it drugged up a couple of days ago, and turned them.

If I ever see those kids on the street, I wouldn't hesitate to give them a good leathering.

Everybody blames it on video games. Not all video games are like this, some video games promote the opposite of this. Video games like Grand Theft Auto promote these kinds of ideas, but things like the Legend of Zelda promote chivalry and the courage to take action against wrongdoing. Then there are games like Doom, which promote using a shotgun against any hell-creature that makes its way to Earth, which I fully support.

Those video games might promote good moral values and crap, but the fact remains that there ARE video games that promote stuff like what those sick ****ers did. It's hard to justify video games that do things like that are fine by stating 'there are other video games that promote chivalry and whacking chickens with a sword.'

I'd say environment plays much more of a part than video games. Factors such as friends, parental control/environment, society, and a number of other things would be the problem. Video games may exacerbate the problem a bit, but they're hardly the cause.

I am unfamiliar with any unbiased survey showing that video games promote violence among kids. They've got plenty of real-life inspirations for violence.

It takes more than just a video game to lead to this type of thing though. I have been brought up on violent games, even as a youth - do I go out and do this type of thing?

I must agree with what Pali says.

More people need to learn to protect themselves. Tell the kid with the broken arms to learn to use a gun and start carrying it. Oh wait' date=' isn't it illegal to carry concealed weapons over there.[/quote']

Maybe. The self-defense laws in the UK are absolutely ridiculous. But, the point I was making was more about how sick someone must be to do something like that in the first place.

I'm not disagreeing about that, but there are a lot of messed up people in the world, and the best way of dealing with that is by making sure you and people around you are able to protect themselves. People can be messed up in the head all they want, but they won't be able to do anything about it if all of their potential victims are armed and capable.
