Okay. I asked a question about rp a while back about how I could do so with an npc. Here is a follow-up then because I have a good idea that I want to do. First, the way that I want to interact with this npc would have a slight change in the gameplay, ie code change. I know this isnt something that would happen often, Im just curious if enough good rp could have this npc behave/do different things, than he has been doing all along. Second, if the first thing is at all possible and I need this rp to be recognized/have an imm speak through the npc, how do I go about doing that. Do i send a note in game to all imms or what.

Also a completely seperate question. Is it possible to put very simple sounds into the mud via telnet (which i dont beleive is possible) but perhaps zmud or gmud. To where when something happens, a sound is heard?

I think that is all for now, but Im sure this character will have me comming back here asking more. Im very excited about him.

Its not a charmie, its an actual pc, and the rp behind my character, he certainly wouldnt want to, or wouldnt to put it better, charm the npc.

And even if he did, im not asking neccacarily for how I can talk to the npc, but more.... If i had good rp with him and a great idea that could be implimented easily (well i think easily) can it and how can it be done via imms.

Make a bard and get familiar with ventriloquate. Or how ever its spelled.

Low level skill.

Get a pet and have hims speak with you.

Get/make friends and RP with them.

Pray the imms for RP. Sometimes shouts can bring nice things.

Askign for a code implementation to help your RP sound a big long shot, as in to the end of the galaxy. But imms are nice, so you never know.

Now realy if you want that RP you most people are used to in restricted PK muds, join Heralds. hand holding hippy kind.

If you want hardcore RP get a vampire and join nexus.

Now realy, forcing things isnt a healty way to RP. RP should flow like water. Not set in stone. It should be practical and real. Not imposible. Like .... the .... memories things ....

You could do it with an emote or something like this:

emote nods in acknowledgement as NPC points towards the east.

You just have to include your name in it somehow. Since you are in the same room as the NPC including yourself in his actions shouldn't be that hard.

Yes, you can add sound to the program for events. It requires the use of triggers, and I'm not exactly sure how to do it. I'm fairly sure that there are several players here that do use sound triggers and they could probably tell you a bit more about doing it.

Oh...if you use MUSHclient, in the box where you edit your triggers, there is a browse option to link the sound you want to the trigger. ZMud may also have something like this. GMud, that might take a bit of work, but I've never used GMud so I'll let somebody with expereience talk about that.

Ah...you want to have others hear the music. That, as far as I know, can't be done. It would require using the MUD server as an FTP and I don't believe it's set up for that. The best thing to do would be to set up lyrics to several songs, paste them to aliases and freeverse them.

If you want people to "hear" music. Learn to write descriptions really well, most of us have fair imaginations.

As im creating this lines I came across a problem. I know when you create your desciption, you cant make people feel certain things. So... If im pmoting something, is it wrong to say something like this-

Pmote strikes three strings on the Mandolin creating a beautiful chord that leaves you with a feeling of beauty and wholesomeness.

Is this bad because it technically makes someone think this? But in reality, which I know this isnt.... a person hears a major chord which sounds happy, and hears a minor chord which sounds sadder. So its not really beyond the realm of what would really happen. Im just curious if that is not the way to go or should I turn it into this

Pmote strikes three strings on the Mandolin creating a beautiful chord with a feeling of beauty and wholesomeness.

Go with the latter. Though you'll probably not run into too much trouble with the first, it's best not to make anyone do anything without their consent. A way to think about this case is some people just aren't going to be moved by certain types of music based on their feeling. I know when I'm feeling quite depressed, 'happy music' takes on a very different feeling/meaning for me than when I'm feeling good.

Well yes I understand that, but certain chords have certain feeling-

I cant really put it into words, but no matter how sad you feel, minor chords have a dark, sad, unfamiliar sound and major chords have a more full, recognizable, happyer if you will kinda sound.

But I guess the second would probably be the best.

Look, I'm Mr. Evil DK with a level 10 malform and my charmie standing there waiting for my new shipment of dead kitties in the CC. Do you really think I'm going to feel "happy" by listening to your music?

Only if it is a funeral march?

Well a "happy" chord might not make you feel "happy", but it has certain qualities that sound complete and recognizable, its just hard for me to say exactly what they sound like. Very familiar if I could say anything. Most pop music is very major sounding. Then when you hear something minor/augmented/diminished etc. your not used to hearing it so it produces an unfinished unwanted feeling. I guess happy and sad are bad ways to put it but its very hard to describe.
