Pali
I'm taking a new class up at UW-Madison this semester. This is the first time it's been offered. It's called The Vampire in Literature and Film. We do nothing but discuss vampires.

Merriwren
My university just started offering a class called Wizarding 101 - Harry Potter something or other. Filled up too fast for me to register though.
WarriorCleric
What degree are you going for that allows you to take that? WC

Iyorvin
Ok. Any university creating a class based off of Harry Potter really has no basis on creating education as a number one priority. I feel even more stupid knowing I have watched the FIRST one. I want that time of my life back so bad.
Tantangel
If the Uni here opened up a class like that I'd go shoot them. Why? They dropped a LOT of classes after supposedly their funds were cut, yet they still want to buy up land to expand and then fire a bunch of professors so they can save money. It's kinda stupid as hell if a Uni has classes like those, granted I'd love to take them since it'd be an easy credit or three, but it's not even worth it to do that. WarriorCleric
Yeah, UB dropped my international econ class, if Vampires or Harry Potter got a class, I'd be more than a little miffed. WC

Lunicant
I'm sure Harry Potter and Vampires are essential life-skills and such learning will guarantee one a well-paid job.

I dont know I think it is a good start to get young ones like my son hooked a little on fantasy, he is 5 so I cant exactly start him on say Conan, or even sinbad eye of the tiger I beleive it was called but because of harry potter he likes magic, dragons, etc.... and stands over my shoulder alot while I mud, I think he is gonna be hooked. I-Brake-4-Minotaurs
I had a crime fiction literature class. Not nearly as off-beat as Vampire fiction of course but man...

It's like taking English as your major, ya know? An interest career, rather than a well-paid one.
Merriwren
Actually I'm in Virginia, (which is a red state). Also it's just a little module class, five weeks, only 1.5 credits. At my university teachers who want to can teach classes like that so I doubt it pulled from any funding (It's part of the Honor's program at my school actually, there are little special interest classes as well as the standard honor's fare. I've also taken a class on the game of Go. ) It's just a little side discussion class for fun, I don't think it'll lower the quality of anything. When there's major in LOTR or Harry Potter or Vampire lore, then I'll get upset.

CCaprice
This is a sad, sad day for education. I could just imagine G Bush taking classes like this. Probably failed JHD101 - Jihad and you and is now getting his revenge.
