English lad
Ok I was thinking that i've pretty much only played communers at the moment, and although my equip knowledge is still pretty shoddy, i wont get out of my comfort zone unless i have to (to lazy). Was thinking about how best to learn melees, now warriors, as i understand it are totally equip dependant, but would berserkers be a better choice. Yes you still need the equip, but you have other stuff you can to, like haymaker, head butt etc..so your not just restricted to dirt lagg and hope you have good enough melee. Basically just looking for suggestions on how to learn to play a melee
Zrothum
I do not recommend zerks for beginners. They are VERY frustrating at times. Play a neutral dwarf warrior justice/wm. Magic resist, nice hp, good str.
mya
Actualy im trying to do the same. You will notice a great diference, expecialy because of vials/consumables. You could also try a monk/blademaster, depending on your training willpower. For warrior/zerker go giant, its a lot easyer. Or at least dwarf. Grishnak
I personally suggest switching to a hybrid or even rogue before going pure melee if you're coming from the C/C domain. Melees are all about training, equipment knowledge, and speed. Do a blademaster if you don't mind loads of training, they still require the basics of a melee class (eq knowledge, speed) but they are a bit safer than an old-school melee in alot of ways. Rogues will give you the opportunity to hide, but you'll still get the feel of having to prep with supplies and whatnot. If you want to learn the fastest, though you'll be frustrated most likely, just go all out warrior and have some fun. Learn what supplies help the most, and learn which eq sets you should be looking for (look at powerful warriors, or even mediocre ones to see the levels of equipment sets and the variety)
Behrens
For warrior/zerker go giant' date=' its a lot easyer. Or at least dwarf.[/quote'] Or human.
tassinvegeta
I saw go warrior or berserker, the experience you get from playing them is alot different from playing a c/c. Its a much harder life but the joys of murdering people in only a few rounds makes it well worth it.
Zrothum
Or human. A human MELEE? Pfft. And you wonder why they won't let you IMM here. Sheesh.
Dale
HUman zerk, there was one a while ago that did fairly well. WM and everything, I forgot his name though. He even got Ugresh. I've also done a few human zerks, they do fairly well.
Deykari
Aetherion (sp?) are you talking about? I think that was Behrens' Human Zerk, it was in WM too. Dey
Iusedtobesomebody
want to learn melee quickly? play either a gnome or halfling warrior to 50. fight everyone and everything.
mya
Halfling warriors will get laged to death. The AC doest saves you that mutch, because once it lands you are down for a long time. Small size means bash is going to be awfull. You get nice trip, but what you are going to trip ? Communers Mages who recite flight ? For me halfling warriors depend a lot on their warrior lore. Dwarfs are a lot better. Gnomes, have nice HP, i have seen a gnome thief with 1000 HP's. But they defend badly, attack badly. And Mages eat them. Sermon, Dispel, Sleep, Quest skill. At least old gnomes where fun, one would punch them and they would explode. I think human zerkers lack laging power. And zerkers special skills work worse. Now human warriors look nice, due to warrior lores. Vials. And if they cannot lag lock they can use the lores to debilitate. Since the lores dont rely on brute force. I could probably play a human warrior, but that is more because of the zero XP pen and high int.
Behrens
Aetherion (sp?) are you talking about? I think that was Behrens' Human Zerk, it was in WM too. Dey Aetharian, and yes, it was mine. I did it on a bet with someone (don't remember whom) to show that human melees didn't suck.
Chief
If your looking for a beginner Melee, Ranger would suit you best, They might lack alittle compared Warriors but 2-3 charmies, Thunderstorm, Nice Archery, And the ability to Camo when things get heated, I would say Ranger is a nice Melee to get you in the swing of things. Pali
Neutral chaotic ogre warrior. They are mad fun, great for newbies if you can accept being pounded by communers for melee domination.

Zrothum
Nope, that's him. Wasn't exactly a stellar performance. Just my opinion. And Behrens...dunno if it was me, but I seem remember having bet Despiser he couldn't own the pbase with a human melee. Just power combos.
The Forsaken
Yeah, while your human zerk was good, he wasn't amazingly great.
Implementor Anume Posted November 20, 2006 Implementor Report Share Posted November 20, 2006 Ogre ranger, neutral, uncaballed Ogre warrior, neutral, wm, gladiator blademaster I don't recommend a serk for a melee starter as they are quite a lot harder to play than a warrior or ranger, esp. if you have to go against other melee. Celerity
definitely a giant-sized race (ogre, mino, giant), and warrior or ranger... just stay FAR away from zerks, dwarves, duergar, halfling, half-elf, etc
L-A
Zerk will be a good option if you have self control. Ironics that berzerkers are a class that requires rigid self control of the player. Rage can help with keeping hit/dam up if you need saves. You will be the bitch of all other melee's and some hybrids (except other zerks). There isn't an easy way - all you can do is roll, play, log and improve. Just be prepared to die a bit more. Mudder
I honestly feel that berserkers are lacking... And PoD needs to be toned up, or buffed somehow. ..But I also think that Vamps should get a tone up aswell.
