Rensvert
After reading both of the books in this series I can not tell anyone how excited I was for this movie. The books in my mind were really good, kinda like a not quite as well written Lord of the Rings. I mean the books were really good probably the best Fantasy Fiction from a modern author that I've read. Given the books lack the Literary expertise of LOTR and the Alagorical referances of Narnia but over all I really liked the books. Now the movie just came out yesterday after going on and on about the books for about half a year I just had to watch this movie........... Now I am not saying it was a bad movie, more like a movie that had a killer story-line but was merly put into the wrong direction. To me everything seemed far to rushed and they left so much stuff out, and I am not saying stuff that really was not all that important but major plot points out that would make a second movie really hard to do. Now all I was wondering was what people thought about the books and the if you have seen the movie that as well. Perhaps other fans of the books will agree with me. Malanith
Not bad for books written by a 12 yr. old.
Nightmare_from_hell
I've just finished reading Eragon in two days! I couldn't put it down. I'm going to go out and read the next book soon. I think the book was awesome and I am looking forward to the movie!
Lailanni
He was actually 15. Which is pretty damn impressive. I can barely write a short story at 25.
Goomf
Books are pretty good. I can't see how they would make a good movie from it though. Even with CGI, a freaking dragon talking is just...stupid.
Nightmare_from_hell
The dragon never actually speaks... it's all mental communication between Eragon and Saphira, so basically it's just using CGI to animate her movements. The author graduated from high school at the age of 15, how crazy is that!?
Zavero
I'd rather be reading R.A. Salvatore.
myrek
I'm partial to Eddings.
Fear, the Angel's Name
I sat down in Barnes and Noble for a week straight, three to four hours a day, reading what was available of Drizzt Do'Urden's saga, starting with Homeland. Those books are amazing. Eragon is a PG movie. I doubt it will live up to the impression of the last great PG movie that came out, the Chronicles of Narnia. Fiere
Eddings is good, but every book he writes is the same. Same jokes, same characters...His best is The Redemption of Althalus, in my opinion.
Questioner
The kid's family was going bankrupt trying to get this book published. Luckily for them they were given the a-ok that the book was going to be published two weeks before their house was to be fore-closed. Makes me want to write a book now. Malanith
Just saw the movie. Now, having never read the book, I don't know if it stayed true to it or not. But, it was an enjoyable flick all the same. The effects were good, the acting decent (read: not horrible, but barely) and the plot childish (hence why it was written by a kid). All in all, a decent film if you pay matinee prices. Oh, and to quote the ever-present fantasy geek seated behind me, "I don't know what movie that was, but it wasn't 'Eragon'. Only the beginning was true! Oh, I hate hollywood!"
Marc
Havn't read the books, but I thought the dragon sounded too human personally. My favourites are Raymond Feist.
EtsoShex
I read that book. Storyline wasn't bad. Forced myself to finish it, then thought to myself, "I could write a better book than this," so I'm gonna. 'Cause the writing really, really sucked. Let's hope the movie doesn't suck as bad. brsingr
DONT SEE IT! It sucked, i hated it, they left out sooo many important details. For example - They didn't show that arya was an elf - her ears were rounded. they didn't show that farthen dur was the city of the dwarves, there wasn't a single dwarf in the whole movie, they left out the scene where saphira and arya broke the giant sapphire, favoring a completely unbelievable aerial figt scene, they left out the sapphire completely, since when does anything grow to adulthood in a matter of seconds, brom didn't burn the house, the ra zac did, when sapphire kidnapped him, she didnt talk to him in the book, but she did in the movie. in the book, after she took him, they spent a night in the mountains, and eragon's legs were skinned by her scales, in the movie, she just went in a circle, and the legs were not mentioned. Brom didn't cause eragon to flee, he found him fleeing in the book, and joined him, the moviemakers conjoined tierm and the village of corpses, he's supposed to mutter brsingr, not scream it, they completely left out the city with the arches where brom died, the ra zac were never killed, and SINCE WHEN DO DRAGONS HAVE FEATHERS??????? that's just a few of the critiques and downright insults, as well as observations. the only good thing is that the baby saphira is cute. which brings to mind another thing - eragon names saphira, she doesnt land after growing to adulthood in a few seconds, then say "i am saphira, and you are my rider". I have never been so upset by a movie, most movies based on books , i'm like "that was different" this one I was like "DAMNIT!!!" EDIT: oh, and they skipped an entire war, when eragon and murtgah were trying to get to the varden, they didnt just hop in the water! they fought an entire war, and then eragon almost drowned, but was saved by the people behind the waterfall!! and they didn't automatically know that he was murtgah!! ... F**kers!

Rensvert
Well since my major is Literature I feel I can write a little about this. First off the book was well written. Given it does not have the greatness of Lord of the Rings or Narnia or several others, like Dracula. But the books were well written. In the books the characters had a really good story and a backwards plot. The movie did none of that. The movie lacked most of the book story line I mean Eragons cousin was seen like twice and in the second book (Eldest) he had just as big of a part in the plot as Eragon. Plain and simple the movie was far to hurried, the acting was not bad it simply didnt have the best acting in the world. And character development was poor at best, they left far to much out. And as for the elf's ears they were rounded her hair just did a dang good job at covering them up for about 90% of the film. In my opion if a second movie is made the director will have a lot of work a head of him to attempt to get the movie back on track with the books. dragonforger17
alright The movie it was alright but how many of you graduated college at that age. I dont know about you but if you have been to college for literature and everything you vocabulary is still very and the book was oh wait oh thats right it was written for children. i dont know when you guys started reading narnia and lord of the rings but i was in the 3rd grade i had just learned to read two years before that. The book itself was good and if you think you can write a better one well then do so and it get it published while your at it make it a movie which i doubt hardly anyone in this forum can do know. It was a good book and everything but yes it could have been better. Since when have they put in everything that everyone wants in the movie if they even put half as much as they should of in the fourth harry potter movie we would probaly have to pay double the price to see it cuase it would be so long. the movie yes it left out somethings and somethings it really should have put their but they have to do what they can and paolini didnt write the script for the movie rember that. all he did was recieve the check for the rights of the movie. Rensvert
First Eragon is not literature, plain and simple it was released as a fantasy fiction title nothing more. Secondly Harry Potter is well down right a terrible slap in the face to anyone and everyone who enjoys literature, For reasons that I will not go into. And yes I said it before and I'll say it again the book was well written and I really enjoyed it the movie however was not the what it could have been or should have been. Lord of the Rings has a lot of Allagorical referances in it that no thrid grader would ever pick up on. And many people have wrote books an that exact point. Tolkien was a mastermind and a wonderful writer most people can agree on that. And the movies were well done in this modern movie age no one would have had a problem sitting through a 2 hour movie or a 2 and half hour film, audiances has shown us that time and time again. Simply put Eragon could have been a better movie given the author did not write the script for the film and in no way would I ever blaim the author for the movie, except on the point that he did allow the script to pass if he had wanted he could have sent the script back to the writer's board. But just for the record the book was really good and I can not wait for the thrid title to make it into my collection!!! Rens
