WagesofSin
For a newbie, what would be the best weapons to choose for a ranger?
Balinor
You get two, I believe? Probably staff and spear/flail. If you only get one, and you're a complete newbie, I'd say staff. If you're not, I'd say take the risk and put it into spear or flail.

Ex-D&Der
It doesn't make that much difference (3% I think), but a word to the wise--choose what you will use most often, not what you think would give you the biggest advantage. For me one of those has always been staff. The other it depends on race, align, and choice of enemies. Usually flail, although in one case spear and most recently sword for some reason. Mister E
Personally I like to be different, I took polearm and mace expertise with my ranger.
