RP for the pbase

Questioner

Recommended Posts

We all like some rp flair here and there. Reading through the Child of lies plot was excellent and enjoyable. However, it takes some guts for someone to become a demon through rp interaction (riddles) and then lose it (exorcised). All for the sake of rp. For any and all first time fl players, or even veterans, pk has always been the main focus when logging on. If you can't hold your own, you won't get the chance to rp thoughtfully and timely. Unless of course you are a herald and/or are experienced with pk and avoiding sticky situations.

When I tried....attempted to create a somewhat reasonable rp plot I was destroyed. Completely bulldozered. The rp plot: I am a lost son of an ogre king, yadada yadada yah...I want to gain my throne back.....let me be your (ogre) king. Yes, I had poor background, no pk skills :o , and the story wasn't catchy. Some people sounded interested, the big named characters questioned my lineage. There went my rp and character. (I hate you Bradah):(

The little rp here and there is awesome: restrings, herald news updates, and the occasional pk bantar. But a full fledge rp plot takes some time and equal effort from all parties to pull together. If say (Bard) wanted to become news anchor of the underworld, spewing junk and rumors, it would be up to the other characters affected by his junk notes to band together IG and come up with a solution. If an Imm happens to see this effect and rp, it might become an even bigger plot.

Rp plots, in my opinion, are like snowballs (Excuse the metaphor). You need a small rp (restring) to get to an entire pbase effecting plot.

P.S. Yes the (bard) is referring to Ravanex, no he has not made any intentions to become a news anchor of the underworld.

there are very, very few massive RP endeavors i feel comfortable running with, whether player,IMM, or player(s)/IMM iniated. these 3 categories feel really forced to me, because i rarely interact with IMMs unless i'm in trouble or in a clan. and that's fine to me, because i know there are other player totally dig them and get a lot out of them, so cool.

the only IMM i've ever felt really comfortable personally interacting with was crypt. for some reason, whenever he decided to mess around with my character or someone else's or the world environment, i always got the feeling that it was lax, not time constrained, totally voluntary, and most importantly because he liked it and was not time constrained whatsoever, so no pressure on anyone. but that opinion is probably skewed because this was like... jeez 2007-2000 = 6+ years ago, and we were all a lot younger then, and had all the time in the world to play around. now it's all Casual Hasafamily and Johnny SeriousJob, so when something is afoot, maybe it's my imagination, but there's a pall on the whole thing in terms of "look people let's do this, i got things to do irl." however, Isadora reminds me a lot of crypt in the way she tries to mess around and do something, i feel not pressured, even when one of my pinns wasnt into it because of random circumstances, she was, effectively, "cool, later."

by FAR the most meaningful RP in 6+ years on the mud is that which is personal or semi-personal to me- whether it involves 2-person PK/non-PK, racial ties or racial strife, or one-city-only or 2-city business initiated by and contained within only a small number of players.

multi-city RP and clan/cabal business RP comes in a distant second. and world massive Aabahran RP comes in third. 2nd and 3rd place are what they are because they arent personal or really meaningful to me in terms of my personal time because they are going to happen with or without me. that's just how i personally feel about it, and i know other players make these 2 types really quality and get much out of it, and i'm glad they keep interest in it to keep the Aabahran history going, just me personally i fell like a cog in a machine with these scenarios. also, not having a Billy BadButt character to take a front stage in these massive plots doesnt help, and absolutely none of this bothers me in the slightest.

basically personal or semi-personal RP is the whole RP world to me in terms of value. and yes i still play along, when required, with the massive RP with my characters regardless and do my best when it is called upon. i've never, ever tried to portray that it didnt mean a thing to my character. i just personally felt better when it was over.

A problem I see with all the RP and PK is that there is no true middle ground. The RPs complain a bit about the PKers, and vice versa. I believe the best RP characters are when they are RP -AND- PK. I know this is a bad example, because it is Despiser, everyone knows he rocks, but still, it's a good example in a different sense. His Tribunal rocked because he had RP, backed it up with PK, and even thought he could totally wipe you to an undistinguishable blob, he instead talked with you and set things into action. I believe the 'best' characters are those that influence people through RP and PK, rather than just PK aka "Do this or I chop your head off." or rather than just RP aka "Please do this. Please? How about for 1 million gold? Pretty please?"

Am I the only one who doesn't think there is particularly any acute need to address the RP or PK going on? I play at 50, and I pk often. Further, I RP often, and am engaged by others in RP spontaneously enough for my taste. A short definition of my taste is that I like the interaction, as long is it isn't keeping me from other pressing things. The RP fits into my PvP, and gains more focus when I am not currently in combat.

Personally I believe the RP is out there in nearly any amount you want it. We all have our preferred mixes, and they are being supported (I have different preferences on different characters).

Is everything perfect? No. Will it or can it ever be? Well, no.

I never said there was anything really missing, I was just saying that there are no real RP -and- PK characters that really stand out and everyone hears about them. People who successfully mix RP and PK generally do better than those that are just rp, or just pk.

Honestly guys, I am tired about hearing about the deficiencies in RP. Or how well it is mixed with PK... Every single one of my characters is RPin hardcore with Imms and everyone they meet, so I don't know what everyone is doing or if I'm just running into the morts of the imm I just RPed with... but can we stop with the RP/PK debates? please? it's making the game a bit less enjoyable.

As much as I don't want to be a jerk, it was your choice whether to click the topic or not.

I fixed your post for you. ^_^

I disagree with you. I don't think its rare, though I do think it is roughly a 50/50 ratio. I'm okay with that, because I think newer players should also get a chance at cabal life. Mostly they will rise to the occasion and grow tremendously in their RP/PK.

I also do not see a whole lot of problems with the RP/PK except from a couple individual characters. I think at least 80% of the players on at one time has a good mix of both. Maybe they're not the best at either, but I see an effort and for me that is just as good.
