KRins
I'm not even sure how to go about attacking this...can someone back me up here?
Pali
First of all, this entire post should be in the prayer section, to keep the matter between you and the IMMs. As you're new and may not know this, all posts that have to do with the conduct of another player or possible rule-breaking should go there, to keep things private. Second, the best way to avoid being PKed is to treat every person in your PK range as a threat, especially when you see them near you. Unless of course you're good and they're good, or your character and theirs have a relationship (but still be wary on that one... I've played characters that loved nothing more than to make someone feel safe around them then strike at just the right moment). Otherwise, expect everyone in your PK range to want you dead, regardless of previous interactions with them or not, and act accordingly. Third, this mud is as much about pk as it is rp. As long as your actions do not breach character, you only have to do the bare minimum of RP to be allowed to play here and pk to your heart's content. Will you become respected as a player doing that? Not really. But it's allowed. PKs should have RP reason behind them, and it's better to have that reason be something beyond "I'm good, you're evil" or "I'm in a bad mood and wanted to vent some frustration through my sword", but those reasons are still acceptable RP reasons to kill someone. After level 10, people can kill you for those reasons, and unless they're killing excessively while rank-sitting, or have eq far beyond their level, or are multikilling you at lower ranks, they're not breaking any rules in the process. To be honest, actually, YOU broke a rule if you told him in game that he was breaking rules. If you feel someone's actually breaking game rules, there's no real way to bring it up IC with them, so it's best to do a quick "note to immortal" describing the situation as you saw it. They're actually quite good at watching people. Fourth, expect to be full looted every time you die. After level 15, if you die to a PK, having any eq left should be a treat. And fifth, whenever someone I kill keeps bothering me about killing them and my reasons for it... frankly, it makes me want to kill them again and full loot them myself. Whether I tell the person I kill my reasons for killing them or not, those reasons are there, and it annoys me that everyone seems to think that while I may hate your character enough to kill them, I should want to talk to them afterwards and make them understand why I wanted them dead. If I want you dead, it means I couldn't care less what you think. It means I want you dead. Also, I have had plenty of occasions where my character was annoyed by certain events and DID go and kill random people because of it. For evils, it's a perfectly justifyable way to blow off some steam. "Help scourge" is a good example of RP justification for random homicide. EDIT: One other thing that I forgot to mention... a lot of people see player killing as something that should be recognized in game as "special" violence, when strictly from an RP point of view, it isn't. Aabahran is an extremely violent world. Every single character that hits level 50, be they good, neutral, or evil, would be classified as a mass murderer in the real world. You kill thousands of mobs, most of whom, RP-wise, are people, just like other characters. Yet you do not feel obligated to have a great big reason for killing them. The experience of battle is enough justification for a neutral character to slaughter hundreds of rangers in Emerald Forest. The need for gold is enough justification for a neutral to kill mobs who carry a lot of gold. A nice piece of armor is enough justification for you to kill another mob. While the rules on PK are a bit different because this is a game and the dynamics have to be controlled somewhat, RP-wise violence and killing in the world of FL is as common as smoking a cigarette is for me. If my character is the type of person who will walk around Emerald Forest slaughtering rangers, nymphs, and dryads just to learn a little, in what way is it out of character for him to kill some random guild-member just because he's having a bad day? KRins
1. He got mad at someone else 2. He found you. 3. He put you in the morgue. 4. You whined. 5. He jacked your stuff, which he technically earned in my mind by killing you. 6. He didn't do it again. I see about 40000000 ways that is RP acceptable. If I remember that char, sometimes homeboy just has to shoot a dude. Watched him go buckwild on the cleric guildguard for a while.
Sagiboi
I did'nt exactly say "You killed me! OMGWTFBBQ" or something similar like that. But I did tell him honestly what i thought and why I wanted to contact the imm for assistance.
Pali
Didn't mean to imply that you did. But any discussion of game rules means you're stepping out of character, and that should NOT be happening in game except in two situations: newbie chat or privately with an IMM. If you feel someone is breaking the rules, notify the imms. It's not your place to correct their behavior, as a) you don't know all the rules, you don't know their side, c) you're not impartial, d) you're stepping out of character to do it, and most importantly, e) you're not an imm. WagesofSin
Welcome to FL. Seriously though, you need to understand what kind of MUD this is. Celerity said it best when she said the MUD is 80%PK and 20%RP. You want an excellent PK game with out the L33t speak, FL is for you. You want deep and involving Rp, sorry, look elsewhere. To most FL players, "deep and involving RP" constitutes silent pk while telling themselves that their character is a madman/psychopath/righteous destroyer of Heretics. Sagiboi
Well. I thought mudconnector recommends this more of a RP game. Heck. Not that I don't like Pk, but i don't even know 30% of the game.. much less pk. Think i'm going get killed everytime I log on. X_X
KRins
That's generally how it starts out. Lumps = Learning around here.
WagesofSin
There are some good Rpers other there, though usually at level 50. You need to ride out those who only want the PK aspect of the game, and get to know those who enjoy the RP. Stick with it, find a few buddies and you'll pick things up quickly. Balgashang
Anyone caught with less than 50% rp by someone named Anithraril will sorely regret it. Sweet Should elaborate I guess, I love this game, I think its great, I've played for some time now, and don't forsee a time when I won't be playing, but I do enjoy RP, and as far as this game has been considered amongst the people I know in RL, Rp here is a joke. On the other hand, I guess as its been said before, the quality of each player does seem to be on a large uprise, I've seen much more Rp in the past year or so then I recall since I began playing. a fifty-fifty ratio would be the perfect blend in my mind. X_X[/quote'] then play an adventurer no pkill till 30 during which time you can explore most areas, and GEUSS WHAT! when you remort back to lvl 1 in your chosen class you will be decked in non-rares. this is a pkill mud, open and free, pkill is a part of the game. And preparing for and dealing with people like your antagonizer above is part of the game.

'tarako
'hmmm, my very first character ever was a human cleric. Died 15 times in thirty minutes... Didn't know that the pit was for the first few ranks, met the chimera four times, acidently attacked the bouncer at the red dragon inn. He didn't make it to level five. I did however learn my way around rheydin, val miran, and that cave north of rheydin. Thankfully my mentor helped me out a wee bit. Hile emp_newb. Malanith
1. Read the class helps on this forum, as well as the PK logs. 2. Ask questions in game. Everyone here was a newb once, and I don't think anyone they will deny you an answer or two. 3. As already stated, start with an adventurer. They are highly survivable against mobs, and are PK-free. Use them to roam about, making maps and exploring. 4. Join the Academy, a clan based on teaching characters. 5. RP here is alive and well, but it's all about what you put in. Keep Rping, and you'll gravitate to those who will appreciate it. 6. Don't get discouraged, even though it will be a natural reaction. Not everyone is a monster in the beginning. 7. Take the time to learn the land, and do your guild/newbie quests. They contain some vital information that to an experienced player seem redundant, but to a newer one will prove invalubale. (vials, gyvels, etc.) 8. Peruse these forums, using the search command. There is a lot of information gathered here, if you wade through the junk. 9. Have fun, above all. It's just a game. 10. Realize that death comes quickly here, and frequently. It's a rough place to live. Everyone dies. But with patience, hard work and a little know-how, you'll find yourself dying less. Keep up with it, and don't give up. 11. Welcome to FL. We're glad you decided to give us a try.
Questioner
A fellow noob! Welcome to fl. This is truly the forsaken lands as you have recently experienced when your screen told you that you are dead. Chin up comrade and embrace learning. Deykari
Welcome to FL. Chayesh
Welcome to FL. As mentioned earlier, questions like this should be brought to the prayer forum for we IMMs to deal with so you aren't needlessly slandering another character, nor revealing your own (as that's a no-no). You've also been given some good advice from other players and an IMM or two in this thread. Use it. I'm locking this thread from future posts but it will still be readable to you. I am also editing the original post as it's something that shouldn't have been put out in the open as it was. Again, welcome. And prayer forum is your friend.
