Kyzarius
so, i am micromanaging my current character... Whats a "decent" Ac..i know enough to get 400+ and i can easily hover in the 300's is it alirght to sacrifice a little ac for other stats if you can hover your ac around 350? Questioner
Depends on who you are fighting. Sometimes you want to sacrifice the ac for saves. Or maybe more hitroll and damroll.
corpsestomp
Also depends on what you're playing.
Kyzarius
k say your looking at ac vs health?
corpsestomp
I'd take hp over ac. AC gives diminishing returns, but hp is always good. On a side note, are you playing a cleric?
Kyzarius
not going to go into what im playing
TheNewGuy
cleric or bmg
corpsestomp
Clerics are hard to dress, since hp, mana (unless you are drow/elf), saves, ac and hit/dam are all good. When I play a cleric, I try to get my hit/dam around 30/30 (with spells up), and go hp gear from there. If I can find a piece that gives -10 or more saves, I'll wear it, but mostly I go for hp. Then again, I play my clerics more like casters with enhanced damage, but a cleric can pull off pretty good melee if you dress like a warrior. Thing with a cleric is that with all your cures, you have to worry less about mals. Afflictives can be a problem, though. Mostly it's a personal choice, but these are my observations. (I've had one pinned cleric, a bunch in the 40s, and one pinned bmg.) With a bmg, you have lots of spells that will lower your ac, armor, shield, stoneskin, air shield, plus extra defenses; terra shield, blur, blades. So I'd focus more on hp gear. ainbimagh
AC impacts just about everything in the game.. so I am an advocate for AC, it affects hits, misses, damage taken, how often almost every physical skill lands... I mean gosh.. its like everywhere!
WagesofSin
I though Celerity mentioned once that AC only affects the chance of getting hit or not?
ainbimagh
Wages, AC affects almost every single physical skill in the game.
corpsestomp
It affects how much damage you take. Take a bmg, tank without all ac spells up (minus air shield, it gives physical resist), then put them up, you'll see a major difference.

Grumpy
Wages' date=' AC affects almost every single physical skill in the game.[/quote'] I'm pretty sure that is NOT true, but anyhow. You can have -2000 AC, but if you end up with low saves, you'd probably be dead by the end of the day. -Grumpy, member of the saves over AC club. Mister E
Just as in life, it's all about balance and moderation. Dont be an ac junky, or an hp junky, certainly no hit/dam junkies ever got anywhere...

Dont be an ac junky, or an hp junky, certainly no hit/dam junkies ever got anywhere...[/quote'] I dunno about that, I had a warrior that had around 60/80 for hit/dam, people tended to run when they're gitting hit with 3-6 massacres/mangles through sanc each round :edit: could have been slightly higher on the dam
Zrothum
With warriors/rangers I shoot for a 50/50 and then all saves. With rogues, I got for a 30/30 and a hp/saves mix With mages/communers, I go all saves/hp. If I can hold -50svs I'll take some high ac stuff
Kyzarius
well i added a couple hundred hp and dropped my ac down to the 300-340 range. saves are always good though, i geuss it would clarify to say the question was with good saves in mind which is best. Implementor Anume Posted January 16, 2007 Implementor Report Share Posted January 16, 2007 Depending on what combi you play you might be very happy with an ac of -250 already I'll have to agree that a good mix is most often the best solution. Guest emp_newb
well if your a straight mage, go for the beast saves and moderate ac, you can buff your ac with many items, if your a melee, I say go allllll hit dam, cause no matter WHAT your saves are, you WILL get hit with something, or you WILL fail a save, BUT if you have a monster hit dam, they do not have the time to try to pummel you with lots of damage. Thats just my take though.
