Deptore
Alright I'm going through the classes that I haven't played yet since I've come back from a long break. I've fought against both as monks but now that I plan to make a monk I can't decide which is better for the class. Humans starting stats are +1 str -1 int same wis -1 dex and +2 con above a half elf, now I'm not sure how much of a difference 1 str is but I think that the half elf's +1 dex makes up for the lost str point. A human would have more hp....the only bonus I see is the half elf's ability to learn faster which I'm not even sure how good that is since I've never played the race. Any tips? Behrens
They both make excellent monks. Pick whichever style you feel like.
Zrothum
Undead.
Chayesh
I prefer half-elves to humans. Behrens would say the opposite. Your choice. (Go with Behrens. He's like, an IMM or something, I think.)
Deptore
Yeah I thought about undead but I've only played 1 evil in the past 3 years of gaming and that was a shaman. At some point I'm going to have to switch to the dark side but I'm waiting for me to want it enough. Not to mention if I did go undead I'd end up considering a thief. Tom
Undead non-hider is very hard. I can remember a zerk, but he didn't last terribly long.
Fiere
*smirk* That was Dey's, I think. And I'd go half-elf, because that learning bonus is actually pretty hefty, and monks have to do a lot of training.
Deykari
Undead non-hider can be hard, but for the Undead options, excluding the hiders, monk can be one of the better choices. I'll leave out the reasons why. I'd personally go half-elf. Dey
TheNewGuy
I've heard monk is the most painful class to train whatsoever. So do yourself a favor pick the half-elf, unless you are a masochist.
Tom
Training a monk isn't too hard if you have the discipline enough to take care of the weapons early. Monkey anats build up quick with the right mobs.
Mudder
Go Human. They are superior in PK. The only perk that half-elves get is the faster training, though training a monks skills isn't hard, its the anats that suck. I don't think the half-elf perk helps with anats. Half-Elves get infravision (Makes training blind fighting very annoying) Resistant to charm (Nice, but easy to avoid anyway) You'll have more hit/dam and more HP as a human. WagesofSin
Training a monk isn't too hard if you have the discipline enough to take care of the weapons early. Monkey anats build up quick with the right mobs. Forget mobs! That takes eons! Find a training partner and go at each other naked while wielding practice weapons. Your anatomy will soar through the roof.
Tom
Tough to get someone you trust as an evil.
Deptore
Man I play more goodies than Pali, the thought of me making an evil is just wrong. I wouldn't even know where to get starting armor. WHAT NO MITHRIL???!!!
