Pieman
What's going on with the world today? Is race that big of an issue. Does the man always have to keep a feral brother down because he's brown? Why must we always place halflings in those..."Special" classes in schools. And dwarves...I mean little people. Which brings me to my next point. Avians. Why people always just assume that they're slackers who are always high? And of course, we all know that Duergar aren't just penny chasing bankers, and jewlers, and they certainly don't run the media. I MEAN COME ON PEOPLE! Football players charged following fight Updated: 1/23/2007 10:55 PM By: Associated Press RALEIGH -- Three Guilford College football players face assault and ethnic intimidation charges following an on-campus attack on three Palestinian students, authorities said. Court documents say the attack involved at least 15 members of the school's football team and occurred at Bryan Hall, a dormitory on the Guilford College campus. Faris Khader, Osama Sabbah and Omar Awartani were beaten with fists, feet and brass knuckles in an attack early Saturday involving at least 15 members of the school's football team, according to court documents. The attackers called the Palestinians "terrorists" and used racial slurs during the attack. School officials believe a total of about 12 people were physically involved in the altercation, said Guilford spokesman Nic Brown. Administrators were still trying to determine whether those people were fighting or trying to break it up, Brown said. "We've had a very, very unfortunate event, unfortunate conflict among students who actually knew each other, and who had lived and interacted in the same residence hall with no conflict among themselves," Brown said. The attack is believed to have happened early Saturday morning at Bryan Hall on the Guilford College campus. Authorities have charged Michael Bates, 19, of Reidsville; Michael Robert Six, 20, of Clemmons; and Christopher Barnette, 21, of Semora, with ethnic intimidation and assault and battery, the News & Record of Greensboro reported Tuesday. They were released Monday on $2,000 bond. The men were listed on the school's Web site as members of the football team. Brown declined to name those involved. Barnette and Bates could not be reached Tuesday at telephone numbers listed to them. Six does not have a listed number. None of the players responded to e-mails sent to their campus accounts. The college will allow all three students to remain on campus while it conducts its own investigation, Brown said. "Guilford College will not tolerate violence or verbal abuse on its campus," he said. "The feeling on campus is calm, but people are very, very upset." The school has scheduled a community forum on campus Wednesday to discuss the incident. Khader and Sabbah are students at Guilford, a school in Greensboro founded by Quakers. Awartani, a student at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, was visiting. None of them immediately returned calls or e-mails seeking comment. In a statement, Guilford College said the altercation in a campus courtyard lasted less than five minutes. At least some of the students involved were under the influence of alcohol, the school said. "It was the most horrific experience of my life," Awartani told the News & Record on Tuesday. "This was a horrible, unprovoked hate crime." Awartani said he was diagnosed with a concussion and had trouble walking on his own for several days after the attack. Last month, Barnette, a wide receiver, was named one of the top 20 Division III players in the nation by the American Football Coaches Association. He was also the offensive player of the year in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
CruelEdict
You can thank the media for that. It had little to do with "Race" or "Racism", and more about some sort of twisted ultranationalist world view. They could have been god-fearing Christians from Lebanon or Israeli spi...I mean students. Either way, the media has created a negative slant against anyone from the Middle East (generally speaking). Now, I am by no means a tolerant person, but this is just idiotic. Violence, in this instance, accomplished nothing at all. Foolish kids, most likely falling into some egotistical peer-pressure type thing and hyped up on creatine and itching to prove themselves to be good Americans by further accosting those evil middle-eastern "towelheads". A perfect example of ******* racists being... *******s. What's kind of amusing, at least to me, is that I applied to this school and Duke, in addition to JMU. Guess this leaves JMU.
