goldbond Posted February 3, 2007 Report Share Posted February 3, 2007 then why not report everything single thing that goes on? how many vets here right here and right now havent gone OOC to someone they didnt OOC know? i certainly say no one PC needs a shadow for OOC for something that other players with communicate amongst themselves pretty rapidly. it's already established that some PCs know each other OOC, i certainly dont see why those PCs feel a holy duty to report a OOC comment instead of just ostracize the PC like they do anyway, and it is indeed justified in doing that. The very words "holy duty" show you have no understanding of the issue at hand. "It's whatever dude" from an earlier post is not only disrespectful but also shows you do not understand the significance of cooperating with Immortals to create a positive environment for this MUD. I'll lay it out for everyone. Report out of character behaviour to the administration as soon as possible, via prayer and/or note, because a) We want you to It helps protect you from similar accusations c) It reduces these occurrences d) We want you to e) We want you to If you're going to blame anyone for fulfilling their "holy duty," goldbond, blame us, the admin. We believe that catching someone in the act and confronting them is a much better policy than letting them go and hoping everyone else will, as you call it, "ostracize" them. Why? Number one, the playerbase as a whole does not have the discipline to enforce the rules themselves. We not only catch out of character behaviour on a near daily basis, we catch it occurring back and forth between multiple characters. The assumption that others players will stop interacting with one particular character is false. Rule-breakers stick together and only an Imm can break them up. Number two, players who go OOC do so on multiple characters. Other players do not necessarily know that Bob, Jim, and Carl are all the same player. This makes ignoring a single rule-breaker very difficult. Unless you're an Immortal and you know what Jimbocarl is up to. And number three, most players are here to have fun. That fun is reduced every time someone says "**** YOU YOU GANGBANGER IF THIS WAS REAL LIFE I WOULD KICK YOU ***" (keep in mind that there probably was no gangbang; it's just a little kid crying because he lost). Sure, players ignore the *******. But the fun is already gone. Reporting this incident to an Imm would minimize these kind of occurrences. You don't want to report OOC behaviour, goldbond? Fine. I got the impression from one post that you (goldbond) think vet's get off easier than noobs? I thinks its the exact opposite myself, a vet should know better. When someone goes OOC on me I do not contemplate reporting it based on my assesment of their skill. As was stated by Wathok, the only way to teach multiple OOC offenders is by reporting them, because only the imms know who plays who and who is doing it more often or not. If someone goes OOC once in their career here and it is reported, chaces are nothing will happen to them, vet or not. If someone has a bad habit of doing it and gets reported by many different people on many different chars, hopefully this person will be dealt with accordingly, hopefully not banned but at least explained the old story that it is a privilege to play here not a right, so follow the rules. Myself I am a reporter, whether a small typo or a major bug, or an OOCer, I just see anything that isnt supposed to be part of the game as something that needs IMM attention.
