Hegemon
Hi. I'm retired, but as it's "reading week" I've played a bit. As such, I have one very specific point to make. We all remember the time when there was a VERY clear distinction between who was good, and who was not. It's not that simple anymore. My point is this:The Kids Grew Up Wrong. That's really our fault. A certain section of the Pbase was very skilled, and it made the lives of everyone who was not miserable. We full looted, we multi killed. We were not kind. Flash Forward:The average skill level has increased. The Kids have taken our example, and ran with it. Anyone who has been here awhile should know what I'm talking about. Close by return:Think of the example you leave for the next generation. Just because someone CAN, does not mean that they should, repeatedly. (And by no ways should you confuse this with my venting/whining. After all, I'm retired)
savnt
Agreed to a point. I've been around since... well... I think you. I come, I go... but I usually turn up like a cold sore occasionally. I've done my share of "reaping newbert" as we can call it. When you are in a vast field of victims that you know don't know what to do to stop you, and just going ballistic with your scythe. I've noticed that alot of the people who I gave hell back then... then got mouthy and I gave more hell to, well... they picked up the ball. My reaping days were well over... three years ago now? Something like that, maybe more. When V just left. Then I sort of lost interest and just stuck to caballies and rp'ed out kills. Eshaine sort of helps us along with that transition now, I think it was Bryntryst who did back then. It is just the way things are now I guess. Everyone, at some point, gets their bearings. Then they realize... "hey... I can kill people proficiently! I am going to kill EVERYONE proficiently." But then, someone comes around who impacts their player style further... and they realize that pk goes only so far. I remember Mhalador's Drow Warrior. He could pretty much put a hurting on anyone at the time. He didn't, though. He actually emoted tapping his palm with his staff of storms (kinda good water damage staff at the time) and staring at Gwardof (dwarf cleric). Gwardof took off like a bat out of hell, and the drow warrior sat there grinning. Now THAT is empowering. Not having to pk, and having people tear ***. You only get that with a delicate mixture of rp/pk and above all else... etiquette. I like to think that I've taken the lesson from some quality individuals then and now... and I would suggest the same to any of the newer reapers who feel themselves ready to step up and REALLY scare people. Kyzarius
self-serving politics go far. Course, its easy to say that the pbase contains less gankers and "trash" pkers when you have gotten good enough that they cant bring you down everytime they look at you. See thats the big difference. Personally my cycle here has been get my butt kicked all over...finally concentrate enough to get better...go on a pkill spree then relax and actually play my characters with rp and pk....course i dont think there is a person here who is proficient in pkill that hasnt had that character where they just went hog-wild slaying everyone they meet. I mean really, when your the underdog in FL you get your butt kicked over and over, when you finally get good enough or it "clicks" and you find a class you can pkill with you have a lot of pent up aggresion to let loose

Guest emp_newb
Meh, I have been here about four years or so, in that time I have had a few decent chars, nothing of real worth. But they have all been fun. The pbase has gotten better, classes are starting to be used to their fullest. It makes the game harder, although MUCH more interesting. Also, I want the tritons back

Questioner
I was always the underdog ever since I started fl. Never went on killing sprees because I learned that it just makes you feel good, but doesn't have much of a point.

L-A
If you don't want to kill everyone, play a healer. Some people actually roll evil, angry, borderline physchopathic characters for a reason..... There will always be a bigger fish coming to get you, so make hay while the sun shines and multi kill all the smaller fish L-A
Ex-D&Der
I think multikilling is lame. If you're playing a chaotic evil, go ahead and kill the weak, but just kill them once, unless you have a specific reason for it.
BobcatFan
Yeah but thats the thing. Given any character, they can have a reason to multi. My characters personally, give at least 1-2 rl days before I seek out someone if I find that i need to for rp sake.
Pali
With me, it depends on the nature of the hostilities. If we are balls to the walls enemies, I will kill them whenever I see them with a pk flag, period. Cabal warfare qualifies here by my book. If I'm a Praetorian and I see a Nexus, I will kill him no matter what the situation, regardless of whether or not I killed him half an hour ago. My situation demands it. On the other hand, if I'm a Sigil and see a Nexus I killed just a little while ago, I won't be very aggressive, I'll let him decide to come to me. But I think there are many situations where this situation can apply and not just in cabal warfare. Scourge could get away with it maybe. Perhaps any of the death followers anyway. Mudder
I read the title of the thread more like a headline... I had a vision of a small boy shouting the front page headline to sell newspapers on the street corner, "Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Hegemon Speaks and the Pbase Freaks!" Hegemon
That was, in fact, what I was going for. I think my prediction has been fair, as there have been the rabid calls for savage warfare I predicted. It's called Johnny Badass syndrome. You take the 50s almost mythical leather clad loner with the dark secret and the soul in torment, add a computer instead of a motorcycle, and instead of spiking the punch at the big teen dance pester people online. Yes? Yes.
