Balgashang
I'm pretty sure they forgot to put the warning label on my script, but a word of advice for anyone else, Don't drink and take antibotics, I'm pretty sure they make you hurl. Pali
Antibiotics as a rule are hard on the stomach. Not only don't drink, but I wouldn't recommend anything that isn't easy to digest while you're taking them.
Balgashang
Heh, I don't drink like I used to, had 1 beer, 1 white russian, and projectile vomiting everywhere, quite amusing after the fact, although I wanted to kick the pharmacist at the clinic in the nuts during the vomiting. corpsestomp
Yah, I think antibiotics increase the effects of alcohol. I took some this weekend, and without my normal amount of consumption(not that I always drink till I black out, but I know when I'm going over the edge), I blacked out and don't remember an extended part of the night. KRins
antibiotics are essentially foreign entities entering your body. Alcohol is a foreign entity entering your body. Your body reacts to these things like it has been poisoned. Vomitting, unconsciousness, and blacking out should not only be considered, but expected. Pali
KRins, by that logic, food is a foreign entity entering your body, and vomiting, unconsciousness, and blacking out should not only be considered, but expected. Foreign entities are not necessarily a bad thing. There are bad mixes that are to be avoided; alcohol and medication should almost never be combined, because both alter your body chemistry. Either alone in the correct amounts can be beneficial.
Malanith
Trying to force down a 5 lb. steak, loaded baked potato and a chocolate milkshake often leads to vomiting and unconsciousness. But damn it, if I do succeed it's free!

[/quote'] That depends entirely on what antibiotics you are using. There are certain antibiotics that cause what is called a disulfiram reaction with alcohol which causes severe gastrointestinal discomfort among other things. Just as an example: cefamandole, cefoperazone, cefotetan, and metronidazole Of course, all oral medication have a chance for nausea, vomitting and diarrhea as well, which, if you have drank enough alcohol can be enough to push ya a lil further than normal I suppose. But, likely, it was a disulfiram reaction considering your mention of that amount of vomitting with so little alcohol

Balgashang
White Russian' date=' Big Lebowski fan?[/quote'] Never seen it, and it was my first time having a white russian, mostly I do shots of Ciroc, or Grey Goose, or I drink Heinken or Fosters. Come to think of it, most of my liquor intake has been straight shots, but I do drink screwdrivers fairly often, if i'm drinking a mixed drink. I need a root canal apparently, part of my tooth broke off, and its straight to the nerve dude said. jb5679
Penicillin shouldn't be having any enormous effects in regards to alcohol. Penicillin's side effects are mostly viewed in the hyper sensitivity (allergic reaction) stand point with gastrointestinal effects and rash coming in behind it. Did he prescribe this for prophylaxis of any infection? 250 mg four times daily is a little know, with an active infection I'd use 400 mg q6. But penicillin is a good choice for infections stemming from the mouth bacterial flora, I can think of some better but the guy might be wanting to make sure hes not adding to any resistant organisms And.... But' date=' at this moment, I have no health insurance, so I'm having to look at temple, upenn, and einstien to see who is going to be cheapest, for thier students to use me as a guina pig [/quote'] /shudder.... good luck, hehe

I think cheap in this case, may be an indicator of quality.

Dizz
While you are taking antibiotics, make sure you eat some yogurt everyday. The anti-b kills all the good bacteria too and will make problems if you don't replace it.
