Billy Bad-*** Syndrome

So - what is it lately? I'm ranking a new char, and everyone seems to think they are a Billy-Badass? Don't get me wrong, usually there are the usual chumps who have their melee zerks wanting to get a bodyslam on you, a handful of qracer-will-never-bes who are killing anyone they have rank and eq advantage on and assorted other chumps that you find lurking in the ranking depths.

Lately though - everyone I come across seems to thnk they are Billy Badass and are going to make your life hard, are going to make you do what they want or they are going to have a red hot go at you.

I reckon that I've had to beat up, kill, run off or hide from at least half the characters that would have been useful to rank with later

Anyone else noticed this?

I've noticed a lot of characters that are very full of themselves. At low levels my characters have been receiving a lot of orders lately... "You will come and join my hunting party." "You will help me kill the red dragon." Annoying things like that.

Another tell I've been getting a lot is "What master do you serve?" Sometimes it's "What path do you follow?" Sometimes, my answer is wrong because the guy says he has to kill me. And if it's the right answer, the guy orders me to spar with him, or to help him with something. And I generally refuse, being put off by orders and all, which leads to him informing me of our master's disappointment in my lack of devotion, and saying that I will be killed soon. Awesome.

It seems like 90% of the tells I get with low-ranked characters these days go this way. Makes me long for the days when the tell I would get the most was "Group?"

I look at it this way, you have more people actually bothering to type 'Tell ' to you instead of coming in and trying to silent kill you. I remember the days back in 1.0 when you got slain by the dark knight, then the ogre warrior, then the thief, then the demon wannabe and never here a word from a soul. It also means they are trying to play a true vicious character, one whom wouldn't 'ask' for something, but demand it. They'll get to the point when they learn it's better to 'make' a rep for your char rather than try to 'tell' people your rep. Besides, it's much fun walking into an area after I gain a bit of a rep for RP and Pk and watching all those 'Bad*****' run like a bat out of hell.

I typpically respond the same way to demands. Though on occasion I have been known to kill the person demanding of me without even responding. That sort of thing just Irks me. But as far as the "Group?" thing goes, I do like to get a bit more perhaps something like "Do you want to hunt ?" Once someone even begged for my help hunting, I laughed very hard.

Just to clarify--I don't like when someone tells me "Group?" either. But at least, in that case, I have somewhere to go... "Excuse me?", or "What was that?", or "If you try to present your question in a more civilized manner, we can talk for a while." Anything. A lot of times, the other guy gets the picture, we can have a dialog, RP a bit, group, or whatever.

That result is generally better than "Who is your master?" "Why does it matter to you?" Then when I see them in my area, "You're coming to talk about it some more?", and seeing that they're ignoring me.

Maybe I'm being an instigator by not playing along as a subserviant little mage. I've played that character before, and might play one like it again sometime, but not right now.

Yeah, it gets on my nerves when random people give me orders as well. It also happens quite a lot. I swear, the next time someone in my pk range does that, they're gonna get a whoopin'. Although I do quite enjoy hanging out at thirty with a non-qrace wannabe and duking it out with them. They're generally good battles and good rp. Plus, if I get tired of it, I can always rank out of it to get away.

You'd better be hoping that the next person that does it is me then, otherwise you're going to be sorely embarassed when you're naked with your prompt showing 1hp and 1 mana.

Ordering people around before you get a badass reputation is one of the # 1 ways to get a bad *** reputation.

You tell/order someone to do something. They refuse. They talk back. You beat the hell out of them/kill them. You just "talked crap" and "backed it up." You are now on your way to becoming a badass who doesn't take no for an answer and won't take crap from anyone.

Also for this to work you have to really dominate the battle, else they will just try again and again just because they're stubborn.

Problem is, unless your certain classes, dominating the current pbase at lower levels is not that easy. Thieves might get away with it with the low hps and all on most cases (matters in terms of poisoning yourself, you can die from it easier at low levels). Though still your right, if they can back it up.

The thing I love more than anything is the random dude who has like 5 levels and stacked eq that makes me wonder just exactly what time of the day they traded stuff from their pinn alt and got away with it running up on you when you are calmly training or something else, especially when you had pounded and given mercy to them in the very recent past. I think it is a little soft and will most likely be revisited on them 61 times in the future. And even when you try to be a good sport and say something like, "Very deceptive and powerful work" or something meant as a compliment without coming right out and saying it, they laugh at you, go invis, and peace out to trade a couple more items from their pinn.

I haven't found too many problems with people having pinned eq. generally two or three pieces is not gonna make that much of a difference unless they are weapons or shields (Norem type stuff). I don't have a prob with being attacked while training either, (doesn't matter what they're wearing, if I didn't see them coming it's my own fault). Oh, and rank sitters generally have better eq than people just ranking past 30. Why? After you master your spells/skills and noone is around to pk/rp with, what else is there to do but gather eq (I suppose you could RP with yourself, not your kind of RP Pali, that's just sick!) Besides, you wouldn't believe the amount of things you come across in the time it takes to get the prereq hours for a qrace.

Thing I love most is when they 'think' you don't see them coming and don't bother to fully prepare, come in, get stomped real quick because you fully prepared, and then return to find you did not take their phat loot, just get 1. corpse; sac 1. ( I always got those sadistic chuckles out of saccing some ogres ice armor at like level 25).

If I got laid for every time I saw a char like this never have the goods to back it up, I'd have been laid more than Fiere's mum

Just because someone happens to have some good eq does not mean they log on their pinn and lowbie to deck out. It depends on who the character is, what ethos and alignment, what clan. I will give extra equipment away to other characters that I know will put the equipment to use, or may need against those Johnny badarse dark knights/clerics.

Frankly I think it would take an insane amount of balls to try a stunt like that. Getting caught would surely get you in HUGE trouble maybe even banned, or at the very least you would probably lose both said chars entirely. Doubtful that it would be worth it. But you would be very surprised how much good stuff is sometimes just lying around or in pits, and lets not forget thieves who can loot any corpse anytime. I used to play a low level thief and just follow pins around who were fighting until someone won and score a phat loot. Also, three level 30's who know what they are doing can actually defeat some decent mobs.

RE:Questioner. I would even hesitate on giving any eq to lowbies as a pinn. Sometimes it is hard to figure if it is something they could really get on their own or with a group of peers. And they dont really need it anyway, so I try and avoid getting into those situations.
