garmonbozia
So, I consider myself new here, havent played since 1.0 - early 2.0 and I didnt play a whole lot. I had a healer, a good cleric and yeah... kind of passive people overall. So I figured, enough with the passive dudes, for my return to FL I'm gonna try something else. And so I have, but here is my problem. Everytime I kill someone, after the adrenaline rush of PK (remember, I am new and agressive PK-ing is breaking new ground for me) I feel so damned guilty. This especially happens when I go through the items of my victims. Heh, I usually look in the bag and think "and this was his bottles of milk.. and here is some other stuff he gathered.. and I just came by and killed him and took it all away" almost breaking out in tears. Ha ha, and I'm a 26 year old guy! Should I just skip this project and roll another goodie healer that goes around loving people or should I try to stick to this character? I'm having tons of fun with this approach but I feel all dirty afterwards. Maybe I just need to grow up.
Pali
If you don't do it to them, they'll do it to you. On the other hand, I've been considering making a healer myself... because somebody needs to bring some respect back to the class.
corpsestomp
Like Pali said, if you don't do it to them, they'll do it to you. Just consider this: No one feels bad about killing you...
Deykari
I felt the same - I used to feel really bad about initiating an attack on someone prior to talking with them and even moreso taking things from them, to the point where I'd feel so bad, I'd come back and try and justify myself, sometimes even saying stuff my character perhaps wouldn't. Over time, I sort of realised that it's just part of the game, people would kill me and loot me, people would full loot and kill them, everyone does it to each other. I feel a lot more at ease with roleplaying PROPERLY with someone after killing them, and I don't really feel bad about it either, because I know I can justify my killing PROPERLY with my character's RP - otherwise I wouldn't be killing them in the first place. Don't worry about it. And don't worry about the people who talk crap to you after killing them, calling you a lamer/loser/idiot/fool/person who can't kill when they're not occupied by a mob/person who doesn't fight fairly/Deykari Awesome PKer wannabe. Biggest mistake I made was letting those people get me down. The above, of course, is assuming I have ever PKed anyone. Dey
Aulian
The above' date=' of course, is assuming I have ever PKed anyone.[/quote'] Which he hasnt, so moving on. Just keep going. Its a hard world out there. Someone is always trying to slit someone elses throat and thats never going to change. If you feel guilty, just picture doing it to someone who you hate and that might help you though it. LET THE SLAUGHTER CONTINUE I SAY!
Implementor Anume Posted March 4, 2007 Implementor Report Share Posted March 4, 2007 Play in a style YOU have fun with. Everyone else is probably doing a lot worse things to a lot of other people. If you feel sorry for the guys you kill, just take one or two items, their gold and leave the rest. Some will be glad some will cuss at you anyway. Grumpy
I agree with Eshaine on this count. Play what is most fun for you. Just because looting is the norm doesn't mean you have to do it. Do what you think is most fun for you.
corpsestomp
I rarely full loot. It's usually because the person pissed me off somehow, or if I need all of it.
tassinvegeta
You can do what made me into the heartless monster that I am today and keep trying to own with odd combos or play countless warriors and eq dependant classes as a noob and try to own with them. Oh yeah, and go Warmaster.
Grishnak
On the other hand, I've been considering making a healer myself... because somebody needs to bring some respect back to the class. Which really means you should stay far far away. I don't know how many people respect a guy who just walks up and pokes them all the time. I normally am not one for burns, but no one else wanted to jump on this one.

Questioner
If your idea of respect to a healer is one who pokes people, then you are completely messed up. And healers are for pansys.

[/quote'] I'll have you know that being the healer who went around poking people is what got me the Veteran title on the original forum, so obviously, it wasn't just me thinking it was respectable. Mudder
Back on topic. I used to feel really bad when I PKed someone. Mostly because I know how it feels to get owned and totally ruin your day. I used to have TDP syndrome REALLY bad and delete. I didn't want to do that to anyone else. Sadly, the more you do it, the better it gets. To the point where you become a heartless bastard and stop caring at all. Though I still hardly ever full loot. I mostly take gold and a few key items to put them "Out of comission" for awhile. Pali
SEE!! HE JUST ADMITTED IT! he WAS a pansy healer! Pansy in the sense of having the balls to sit in Central Square of Val Miran wearing almost no eq and open to attack by anybody, and pansy in the sense of having to resurrect while being attacked by the guys who did the killing (which no longer happens since nobody asks for a res after a PK anymore)... Mindflayer
I take what I need from a kill, unless they full looted me prior to their death.
Deykari
I take what I need from a kill' date=' [i']unless they full looted me prior to their death. I follow the same rule, apart from I won't ever full loot if it's apparent they're pretty new (half of me feels 'bad' for coddling newer players, the other half doesn't have the heart to take all the mithril that newer players have searched so long and hard to get ) and I will always full loot if they are supremely tough and I took them down by some stroke of luck - if I kill a hardass, it's likely going to be by luck, and I do not want them coming back for revenge anytime soon. And to Eshaine/Grumpy, you're exactly right that you should play how is most fun for you, but for some people (myself included) doing what's fun and best for them (if it involves taking things) can take a bit of getting used to if you're a softie at heart. Iusedtobesomebody
i generally take: 1. gold 2. consumables 3. primary weapon 4. any pieces i might need i rarely full loot any more. i used to be a 'full loot/sac' everytime player, but i outgrew that. Kyzarius
I take what I need from a kill' date=' [i']unless they full looted me prior to their death. This is my standard policy on all characters, unlessss... 1. they are enemy cabal 2. they have sworn to kill/end me 3. they bad mouth me after i kill them and before they get to their body 4. they bad mouthed me the last time i killed them 5. they insulted my character directly 6. i am sworn to kill them through rp. 7. They have killed and full looted enough people that i have heard through the grapevine not to trust them. 8. I am being paid to loot them (has happened a few times)
Guest emp_newb
Ok, if I have a reason to pk them, I will more than likely take a few crippling items, voker Ill yank some saves and all possible charged items, bmgs take the dancer and such, dks (sorry guys) bye bye malform. Etc etc. I will rarely full loot unless I otherwise have a reason to. Which truthfully I rarely have a reason to unless I was ganged, or killed/multied with full loot/sacs. Im not into completely screwing someone, I just wanna make sure they stay out of my hair for a bit. Also, if I kill someone, leave their stuff, and they run off and unghost and try to kill me seconds after I beat them, that merits a full loot. Playing a vengeance style is one thing, blatantly suiciding is another.
