Go into the movie expecting a movie, not a comic, not a historical account, and it will absolutely knock your socks off. One of the most beautiful movies I've seen in a long, long time if nothing else. The story is simple, but deep and motivating. I think it captures the heart of Sparta, if not the history of the time. All this coming from a classicist, so you know I'm gunna be nit-picking this movie (man did Troy ever piss me off the first time I saw it).

This movie is a perfect oppurtunity for me to leap back onto the forums.

Speaking of perfect... it is the only way to describe this movie. A unique blend of CGI and acting, it dots all the "i"s and crosses all the "t"s. While it may not be historically accurate, it is historically asskicking.

There are a number of lines in the movie that will have you either A) Laughing, B) Saying to yourself, "Holy **** that's good writing," or C) Both. The dialogue fits the setting unlike any other movie I've ever seen. The Spartans have just the right amount of emotion, while maintaining an outer shell of cold, battle-hardened focus. If you've seen the trailers, you'll be waiting for certain parts of the movie to happen. And when they do, you'll be like, "**** yeah!"

I give the movie a perfect 10 out of 10. It has just the right amount of swords, sex, and slaughter for my taste.
