Just because AIM is on doesn't mean you have to give information out ooc. Grow up please. It is your responsibility as a member of this pbase to keep everything in game IN GAME. What is stopping you from doing the right thing? Evangelion, I am glad that you have the gumption to take one more step to prevent ooc, but it really shouldn't have to come to getting rid of AIM.

You're just mad cause I won't tell you who I play.;)

Anyone needs to just wait a week to find out who you play ;) Deleted at the speed of a crackhead with cops behind him.

In all seriousness.

Do you go up to people who throw their cigs out in order to quit smoking, and tell them "You're a pussy. Grow up and quit smoking the man way!"

Well, anyone can tell you that I'm actually solving the problem in the best way - by removing temptation.

Pretty much hit the point dead on target there.

Infact, you might say, you had perfect AIM.

An interesting analogy, while not completely applicable. However, to use the same one, there are many who just choose not to smoke. If the temptation for OOC is that strong that you actually have to delete a messenger program (which is just the medium, not the cause of OOC), then I suggest you just make a conscious effort not to use/gather OOC information instead of shooting the messenger (its a pun, deal with it).

What's the big deal? Give him a break.

It's not like he's harboring some huge serious obsession/addiction with OOC that he's having to control by getting rid of AIM and now he's having to learn to control himself. Simply by removing the (main) medium through which OOC stuff in FL takes place, the temptation is removed. Discussion between FLers usually turns to discussion on FL and things can slip out, awkward questions can be raised, all that jazz - I know what it's like. It's no excuse for any OOC crap, I know that, but still, don't fault the guy who's doing something about it and cutting off OOC ties when there are plenty of active OOC rings out there that deserve the 'disappointed remarks'.

I did the same thing, and got rid of AIM a while back, and I wasn't involved in the OOC scene (though a couple of my characters at the time did get out the bag). Having had time away from speaking with FL players over AIM and just keeping my interactions in-game and on the forums, I feel a lot better for it.

My recommendation (and experience) would have been to change screen names without telling any FLers rather than getting rid of AIM completely. Of course, I still route much of my social planning through AIM in the real world, so if you don't use it for anything other than FL chat then good riddance. I also wouldn't have announced it here, not that it really matters in the end, but it shows that you feel accountable to your FL OOC friend base. They would have seen that you were still active on the forums and could ask you questions about your disappearance in a PM rather than bringing it up to the entire pbase (unless, of course, the entire pbase are friends of yours on AIM, which I know to be false because I exist).

Not hassling you, I, from experience, think you've taken a very positive step for your enjoyment of the illusion of the game. Good job, but I don't think involving the entire pbase via the forum was the best route to breaking away from OOC connections.

My AIM list' date=' at one point, had over eighty people on it from FL. [/quote']

That's absolutely insane. I didn't even know eighty people played FL right now. I think I've, at most, had 6 to 7 FLers on my AIM before. Now that number is 0 because I thought that was too high. And some people actually try and deny that there is an OOC problem with the game? I made the joke about knowing the entire pbase wasn't your buddy because I wasn't, but it sounds like everyone except me actually was.

P.S. An away message works wonders.

I don't think anyone is faulting him. This is a public forum and we're just expressing our opinions on the matter at hand.

I've got 37 on mine currently (though I rarely talk to more than about 3), and every single one of them looked me up on the forum and IMed me, not the other way around (I've never done it). It's funny how much people here like to talk to other players.

I've been trying out a new Im it's IMVU. It's pretty neat since it's 3D and there are less creeps on it than AIM. *shudder* Funny thing is, everybody looks like Bratz dolls. lol PM me if you want to look me up on it, I'll give you my nick.
