a-guitarist
I'm looking for a new game for the PC. The problem is, I go out and spend 20-30 bucks on a game and find myself going, "Damn, a waste of cash." I've played World of Warcraft, but it just doesn't really appeal to me anymore. I'd play FL, but I am at a loss for new ideas for characters, and sometimes I just can't connect due to location problems. (I do have a laptop for those times). What I'm looking for is a game that I can pick up, play for about 30 minutes and stop, then pick it up at a later date/time. Currently, the only game that I'm playing consistently is the old Sim City 2000. (Got the download off an abandonware site and run it through DOSbox.) I was wondering, what games could you guy suggest for me to play? Games that I can play for hours include: SimCity, Alpha Centauri (but not the Civ games for some odd reason), and old school RPGish games like The Legend of Zelda. Pretty much I'm not looking for anything flashy. I'm looking for something fun, with a decent story (if it's an RPG, not that LoZ had a good story, but it was pretty fun.), and essentially mindless where I can save my game and pick up later. Any suggestions? a-g
Dizz
I'm kind of in the same boat. I've played Baldur's Gate I, II and Neverwinter Nights every way I can think of. I'm wondering about NWN 2 but I'm afraid it will be too similar to the first one. That would be a rip off. FOr now, I've been into the Sims 2 and Sim City Rush Hour and on occasion a mod from NWN. Insepiddeception
sorry to deviate but I just bought NVN platinum again just for old time sakes and what a fun game for being free online. I have heard that the city of villans/heroes or whatnot is pretty good. WoW is getting draining its like ok a quest lets walk 56 miles to get it! Pali
If you like strategy games and have a pretty decent rig, I'd recommend Supreme Commander.
Kyzarius
Guild Wars is my newest game, no monthly fee makes it nice for a secondary to mine and my wifes addiction to City of Heroes. Guild Wars is developed by the same people who did baulders gate and diablo (same development team, different production company), and this is visible in the loot/quest system. The engine runs very smooth and graphically its very nice to look at...which is always a plus. Pkill is supported in arena style and is a large part of the game. I experience a little memory leak after six hours of game play but otherwise its not to heavy on the ole 3.4ghz 2gb ram pIV Only problem i have with it is the constant spamming in towns by people trying to recruit for their guild..real pain especially if you dont like being "randomly" recruited for anything. course, could always start the "Forsaken Lands" guild.. If you do try the City of heroes and Villans games create on guardian server and send a tell to @mr. Kacos i will twink you up with a few million influence (ingame currency) good and get you into our supergroup with all its benefits. CoH is on the eve of its 9th FREE expansion pack, which is one of the best benefits to the game..it does have pkill though its not as balanced as one would like a pkill game to be...you really dont have to participate to have fun though. If you like haveing 30 powers to click and lots of flashy graphics its a fun game. the battles can be VERY intense when your team of 8 takes on 30 enemies at once heh...and you do get a sense of power when you play some of the epic archtypes (unlockable with a max lvl toon), 19.95 a month price tag though...the game itself is 19.99 as well at best buy last i saw, prolly 9.99 elsewhere... random_clown
If you liked Alpha Centauri, then go with Galactic Civilizations II. It is the modern version of that game in many ways. Even design and build your own ships, etc. Excellent game. There is a gold edition out right now that includes the original, and the expansion. The expansion, unlike most, really polishes the game even more than it was before. Its a game where you can choose a small solar system and play a quicker game, or choose a huge universe and have it last for weeks or months. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/galacticcivilizations2darkavatar/index.html?q=galactic%20civilizations%
Chromatic
Only problem i have with it is the constant spamming in towns by people trying to recruit for their guild..real pain especially if you dont like being "randomly" recruited for anything. That's why you see people in the 'foreign sectors.' Spammers don't go to them because there isn't the mass amount of people. It's a bit easier on your computer, too. Grishnak
I recently picked back up with the Fallout Series. Fallout: Tactics is my current project and I forgot just how much I love these games. If you're looking story, I say go with Fallout 1 or 2, but the whole series was very well done (loads of cultural jokes too!) I also enjoy the Hitman games, but I'm one of those perfectionists who spends hours on those missions making sure I'm never suspected so I have to put them down at times. Celerity
wow..I was just given fallout one and two..but they don't run well on my computer...so very annoying to play them :S edit: well dang, I've played galatic civilizations II also recently quite a bit...it is nice, but I prefer master of orion II...galatic civII is the happy medium between MOOII's faster gameplay and space empires IV's sheer size of techs and strategies
