Job search brings an end to FL

Few may know that I am actually graduating this May, but in case you didn't...yes, I am! Woo!

I got a very tempting job offer today from Avanade in Chicago. It is an IT consulting firm created by Microsoft and Accenture.

I stopped playing mud to focus on securing a good job after graduation, and it seems that day finally arrived. It is quite a relief to have a solid offer as I continue to entertain other options.

Unfortunately, the time I took off to focus on my upcoming career will only bloom. After graduation, I'd be going to Seattle for a five week training course, then back to Chicago and getting on my first project team. With 80% travel and 50-60+ hour weeks almost a given in this field, I may not make it back to FL for some years to come. All jobs in my search will entain a process much like this one. I'm looking forward to this exciting time, and can't wait to see where I end up.

Its been a wild ride, but as many have said before me, "Real life calls."

Best wishes to you all.

Seattle is a great city. Get out and see the islands, Mt. Rainier, and head hiking in the northern part of the state. Great breweries abound, Columbia Valley is on the other side of the mountains, and nice wineries are just outside of Woodinville(about 35 minutes north of Seattle). Some of the best sushi and views can be found across Lake Union in Freemont. Day long entertainment or relaxation is always just a short ride away. If you're stuck in Redmond go scare Grannyman.

Never been to Chicago but from what my friends tell me if you're a city guy find some roommates or if you can afford to live on your on go for it. Great city. If you want to live outside the city... be prepared for a rather long commute.

Being exhausted at the end of the day from a job you really enjoy while looking forward to doing it again in the morning is very rewarding and fullfilling.

Congratulations and enjoy life.

Congratulations! Though, ah... we have very similiar jobs. I manage the projects that you guys can come in and support. Spent two months recently doing 65 - 85 hour weeks (alternating weeks on site) and was still more than capable of sleeping and indulging in my nefarious gaming habits. Admittedly, you can't log as many hours, but it's still more than possible - if you think it's a worthwhile use for your leisure time.

Then again, if it's Accenture-Microsoft, the estimates of the hours you'll be working are probably on the low side. ;)

Congrats on your new job. Chicago is a fantastic city in the spring through fall, kinda brutal in the winter. You are definitely going to want to check out the Wrigleyville area or the Lincoln Park area. I'm the director for a medical staffing firm in Chicago, and have been the manager for I.T/Acct Fin/Eng Staffing firms, Clerical and LI as well. If you have questions about where to live, or if you have friends seeking employment or wanting to move to Chicago, I am quite well connected on the staffing end of things.

It's such a great time to move into the city, I would totally recommend NOT doing the suburbs. All the 20somethings are in the northside of Chicago.

WOOT!

Good Luck!
