Whatever happened to cool bounties?

Seriously, this has been noted a bunch in game and we still have no answer why. I remember back when not only could you find phat cash in bounties, but awesome items. Some that I've seen that have come to mind were an Arctron, Forgemaster's, Solar Grasp etc. Now the closest thing to something useful is a major globe. Big Whoop. C'mon guys where's the fun in playing a Syndi anymore? It's not all about just killing for respect, it's about the CREAM.

The Syndicate should be factioned up a bit. One half could be [Hunter] and the other something else. I honestly can't think of a good name, since Cartel is already taken. The idea is, though, that not everyone joins the Syndicate to be a bounty hunter and even the helpfile says it is for every sort of criminal, yet the only real way to go is to collect bounties.

I think Syndicate needs some retooling, perhaps giving it a little more depth.

Subcabals: Hunter, Underworld

Hunters would be your normal bounty hunters, cool good enough.

Underworld (Or whatever else to call it) would run a "Black Market" Trader system. Have the ability to pay off Tribunal Jailguards, blackmail and the likes.

You'll notice that when there are very strong characters, that die very rarely, the bounties increase in quality on those players.

Martineius and Suunmar are perfect examples. Their bounties always contained spectacular items, because defeating them was a challenge.

However, these days there don't seem to be any characters of quite that quality/survivability, so there's no need for people to put that kind of item on anyone's head. Roll up the next big Scare-Char, and everyone will bounty you with nice shinies.

To be honest, that seems less of an issue than the state of the Syndicate. Due to its lack of depth, the mediocre bounties just compounds the need to revise how Syndicate works. I think if it was RPed out and the IMMs were willing to flesh it out a bit, we could see a nice Mafia-style organization really exist, instead of what is currently there -- a mostly loner-driven remake of Hunter with different skills.

I - Hired Muscle

M - Thug

T - Enforcer

E - Hitman

L - ?

[underground]

I - Hustler

M - Ringleader

T - Underboss

E - Boss

L - Crime Lord

The skillset currently in place could go to the Hunters, while the other portion could get some Blackmarket-style skills, such as preserve and the such, perhaps even a system that allowed people to buy from them specialty items and drugs, etc.

Just more random thoughts...I suppose I have a bit too much free time on my days off.

I know for one that the bounty on my head recently was very good... 150k and some things like soulreavers, amulet of sanct and so forth. Meh

We also gotta not forget that the good bounties are also usually on the players who are harder to chase down / kill
