kahlos
Owie. They hurt. Any general advice on how to kill them with a melee? Massacres thru a decked char with sanc is nasty.
Psycho Child
Get really really high to hit, and use magical exotics. Oh and pray. Futher info available if you state you class.
kahlos
Can't say what class. But yeh melee. Magical weapons are the way yes? Haven't played a BMage at pinn and haven't really fought that many so I still have no clue. Basically, by the time I can recover from a first command lag (dirt kick probably!!), health is near halved from normal melee, blades, and spells.. and I'm either blinded or deaf. Calron
Get detect-magic and watch when spells will fall; battlemages have to keep up with a lot of spells to be effective. You will also want high hit and damroll; that pretty much applies for everyone if you are a melee. Would help to know your class for more specific info. Raargant
The only way a battlemage can do massacres through sanc is either against an ogre, or with sear. For sear, avoid fighting them by day, and no matter what, do NOT fight a battlemage at noon. For the rest...it's a tough one, yeah.
Celerity
Try to cut off their regen with something bmg can massacre with the weapon or meteor (+ what was mentioned above)
kahlos
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.. fight bmages at night. And no I don't play an Ogre and yeah it was probably sear. 1. Wear magic weaps. 2. Get detect magic. 3. Fight at night. 4. Poison them. 5. get all corpse. Sounds good!
Celerity
Also, might want to stay near mobs to void flashfire/area spells, if that is an issue..
Raargant
Right, meteor can do it as well.
Evangelion
Nodisarm magical polearm will win most melee vs bmg fights for you. Unless you're a monk, in which case you don't stand a chance, or a ranger in which case you don't stand a chance.
Tantangel
mmm. I might just play a BMG. I want to summon Deaths Head again. By the time I finally managed to cast it at mastered it summoned the thing and of course I wasn't fighting anyone and I get all these tells at once asking if I saw that. Of course I saw it. Then I saw my pit bastards.
Evangelion
I summoned it twice with Letharius. Aulian can attest to that - I did it standing next to Bradah.

L-A
Melee vs bmage can be a hard battle even if you are geared up and know what you are doing. There are, however a few things you have to do: 1) Always, always, always use a magical weapon. Ref shield absorbs physical damage and 'charges up' and hits you with it. Its bad. It hurts. It will kill you. 2) Weapon types - something they can't use (if possible) and dirt to nulify parry. There other defenses (terra shield, blur, blades) will no be affected by dirt kicking. They are based on the % of spell. Eliminate 1 defense helps though. 3) Bmage damage - they have blades, dancing and spells. This is what is hard, they can both melee and cast. As a melee, make sure you using something wtih defensive capability. This stops a lot of pain. As a zerk I used a magic polearm as it gave good defense and allowed me some melee back into the battlemage. A magical staff if you have pugil might be a possibility due to the extra attacks. 4) Saves - get some. 5) Carry cures - you know what effect they can get on you, make sure you can cure them. Bmages are a sort of 'tank' class. The key to stopping one is to start to eliminate their advantages (defenses to stop melee, saves for spells) while hurting them. As has been mentioned, there are times of day to help with this. L-A

Psycho Child
certain Magic polearm, fight at night, on the water, inside, and near a big mob if you can. hit them with poison to kill thier mana regen if you can as well.
Tom
Unless you're a monk' date=' in which case you don't stand a chance[/quote'] That's just not fair, there're heaps one can do as a monk to eliminate bmg advantages.
corpsestomp
Well, if that monk doesn't want his face ripped off by reflective shield, he gets magic hands, but then he wouldn't be able to lag the bmg at all, thus ruining his advantage. So if the monk wants the kill, he tosses a chii bolt, and hopes to take out the bmg before reflective shield eats him.
Tom
"Your chii bolt collides into someone's reflective field and collapses it."
corpsestomp
Ahh, I didn't know that. I don't play monks very often. In any case, it's much easier for the bmage to get that back up, before the monk can lock them up. So it'll be uphill, unless the monk can get the laglock going. Tom
Fully agreed it'd be uphill, but I'd wager on a good monk over a good bmg.

Tom
Caveat - we'll have to find a good monk.
Raargant
I'd definitely have to agree that battlemages, in general, tool monks.
Tom
I think it has more to do with the relative difficulty of the monastic life versus playing a battlemage. If someone took the massive training time and (as important) had good eq knowledge, I still think they could take a good bmg. The difficulty seems to have made them one of the most underrated classes now, even with the changes.
