TROLL TROLLS History: Long ago the trolls were ogres. One race that, while massive and powerful, had an innate weakness to magical effects. Throughout the years this weakness had been exploited by their enemies as a way to fight against them, but this weakness was deeper than just their vulnerability to magical attacks. Aabahran is a land full of natural and latent magics. Not even the ogres knew that this made their very bodies susceptible to change and mutation. The first trolls were nearly indistinguishable from their ogre cousins; but as generations passed, accelerated by the quick maturation speed of ogres, their forms changed to resemble the trolls we know today. The ogres of Marak did not accept these new mutated beings. The changes were seen as dangerous and potentially contagious. This shaped the outlooks and temperaments of the trolls. No longer were their hearts capable of things like charity or sacrifice. The trolls who lived within Marak were pariahs within the walls and did anything necessary to survive. With the traits that the trolls had formed they found themselves stifled as outcasts within the walls of Marak. Their reformed bone structure allowed them to speak in the tongues of the other races of Aabahran more naturally, and they were easily able to acclimate to life in the larger and more diverse cities of the lands. The trolls were able to easily integrate beyond Marak and were fast to make new lives. Their abilities to quickly learn and pick up trades have made them quite valuable. Though they are seen as a 'younger' race by many of the other races of, the trolls are driven by primal instincts and survival of the fittest. They have struck out across the lands seeking fame, fortune, and power. Appearance: While still large, trolls are slightly smaller and much less portly than their ogre cousins, though many are known to still carry noticeable weight in their midsections. Their bone structure is rigid and angular, and their faces are more pointed. Their ears are large and either stand up and outward, or flop down below their jawline. Muddy and greenish skin tones are most common, though a myriad of rich colors have been seen. The hair upon their heads is often thin and stringy with darker hues. Hometown: The trolls originally hailed from the city of Marak, though they have since migrated away. Trolls that have left Marak find themselves drawn to Maelbrim, the trade capital of the known world, or to the port city of Miruvhor. Society: Trolls find it much easier to integrate into populations of other races than the ogres. Many are content to just be commoners amongst the cities that they inhabit, though ambition drives some toward growing their status. Interestingly, no Trolls have been born from the noble families of Marak. Religion: Many trolls find themselves drawn to the religions of Chance. Their very existence being the result of randomness, they find solace and acceptance to these religions. Trolls can also be found worshiping religions of Knowledge, Death, and all facets of Equilibrium. Not all trolls are religious, and many follow Atheist and Agnostic paths as well. Relationships With Other Races: The trolls only recently been seen outside of Marak. Most races that were accepting of the ogres that they mutated from still accept the trolls as if nothing changed, though some have a distrust of their less good natures. The long-lived races of the lands have been weary of the trolls and their new appearance. Physical Adaptations: The bodies of the trolls have mutated in interesting and unique ways. They are larger than most races, though smaller than the giants and the ogres. They are also the least rotund of all the large races. Their bodies are able to regenerate and heal wounds in an unmatched amount of time. Their immune systems have also advanced to where they are resistant to poisons and diseases. Their thinner hides have made them vulnerable to damage from acidic sources. Trolls can be the following classes: Warrior, Berserker, Monk and Shaman.
