Eldrigal Shrythara

Faces In Time · by Academician Daemian Sathyr

Lord Eldrigal was born of a family versed in the art of words and magic. Scholars and mages they were, dedicated to the preservation of the ancient Elven way. Eldrigal himself was a part of this clan. As a young lad, he found his peace in the musty halls of the world's libraries. Within them was found solitude, serenity, enlightenment. It was only natural that he should find himself one of the Heraldic inductees. Now, with unlimited access to the tomes of the world, he set about studying and amending the histories of his people. His dedication and passion elevated him to Elder of the Heralds, before he found it prudent to leave, for his own sake. He went in to a voluntary exile, to find within himself the cure for that which plagued him. His return was celebrated, but it was to be the beginning of sadder days.

The passage of time gave Eldrigal a daughter, Kyiska, wed to his son. It was her that proved the catalyst; her plight the beginning of Eldrigal's downfall. Kyiska was a victim of Cariousus the vampire, and the powers at his command. Through artificial means, pleasure was derived from his touch, pleasure which Kyiska craved. When Cariousus vanished, Kyiska was left without a source for her addiction. It drew her to illness. Eldrigal saw this, and in his compassion desired to rid her of this malediction. His plan was to provide for her the feelings she craved, but provide them with cruelty. Hopefully, she would then be forced to rid herself of the addiction. The plan worked flawlessly - well, nearly. Kyiska was indeed cured, but at no small cost to Eldrigal. In executing his plot, his name was soiled. His actions had to appear real, and he could not drop his facade for anyone, even his wife and son. He was outcast from his profession, and nearly exiled from his home. But it doesn't end there. Eldrigal, upon his return had found his world vastly changed; his wife wed to another, his former lover Malynne turned sour. Twas not a joyous homecoming. In attempts to assist Malynne, he offered but help bear her pain. She refused, claiming that he'd not be able to handle it. So, he went about learning how to handle it. This brought him to like pain. In accepting the pain he felt for the loss of his wife and former love, he began to enjoy it, almost as much - if not moreso than the pleasure he had the power to grant. He was thus scarred.

Eldrigal struggles to this day, attempting to renew honor to the name that was slandered through his sacrifice, and to free himself from pain's alluring embrace.
