Aegieron the Blue

Creature Compendium · by Historian Mathicus Flon

Aegieron, a Cyclops of many, was raised in Eurish, a partially domesticated land built by empowered warriors, faithful church goers devout to the teachings of the One God. The largest city in Eurish was populated by peaceful, blue-eyed citizens casually known as the Blues. Color strongly defined the morality of any Eurishian; the Reds were barbaric, red-eyed terrors who scoured the Rift for hallow promises and chaotic demons and curses. Greens persecuted the existence of cities, and even smaller settlements - they were protestors, malcontent with the grace of the Blues and slanderous to the Blues' cause. Aegieron belonged to a guardian sect, responsible for eliminating the threat of Reds and Greens alike. Discipline and order were of the utmost importance. Each warrior was trained since their youth, gifted with only the strongest weapons in addition to the holy Word of the One.

Aegieron led a small squad on the eve of a momentous occasion, the Great Day of Prayer. He and two comrades were ordered to assassinate five deadly shamans that had encamped in a cave bordering a single known sea. A plethora of defensive beasts had infested the crag, yet the madness of the oppressors did not halt Aegieron and his chosen. The cave was swept clean and the heads of the targets confiscated. Crowns in hand, each of Aegieron's colleagues died the moment they left the cave. Their seemingly illogical demise ruined Aegieron's victorious mood. He traveled back inland immediately, thoughts of what to report to his clan in mind. To his eternal shock, he found naught but an expanding gap in the earth that led into a whirling, black vortex of frothing ocean. A mouth in the ground had consumed his entire homeland, the throat of its abyss full of ruin; the inverted wall crept outward toward the sea.

Already exhausted from his hike, he fled back to the ocean, along with other stragglers, through forests and hills, meanwhile the gate into the unlit depths of the planet grew. Miraculously, a raft had washed up on the shore when he reached the beach, though he was no longer accompanied by survivors. The raft took him far enough away from the slowly sinking Eurish to avoid the undertow. The ocean moaned as the earth was tugged into it until all that was left was a boiling sea shrouded by white mist.

The sea, sky, and the One provided Aegieron with all that he needed to stay alive. Wearied by countless, sorrowful days independent and stranded, he arrived in Miruvhor. His faith was renewed, and he vowed to serve the Guild of Warriors, and through it, the Church of God. Repeated failures and tribulation with his guild, the Knights of the Crown, and foes only further strengthened his faith, allowing him to accept the guidance of the One, and abide happily by His will, even if it resulted in his downfall.
