Kaylia, The Accountant (II)

Faces In Time · by Historian Eril

[Original Publication by Scholar Vaerlin]

(continued from Kaylia, The Accountant Book I)

Her actions were noted by the local cartel, and she was

employed to them as an accountant not long after. While she possessed the ability to collect funds - as is the major function of many Company employees - she preferred financial administration.

The Syndicate embraced her as one of their own with

little hesitation. Kurvikhel was the Company's mortal head at that time, and he took Kaylia under his wing as a secretary. She was "weak, rich, political everything he needed." The Syndicate prospered, but Kurvikhel's overt power would eventually come toppling down.

The power vacuum left in the wake of Kurvikhel's

downfall galvanized Kaylia to propose an alliance with her chief rival, Philantees.

"You can be the stronger half," she said, "and I'll

do all the boring work."

Thus, management of the Company fell to her. Little

was revealed about her business as financial manager. She did speak of a visitation by Lloth, which inspired her to return to her native home. Upon her return she was titled 'Matron of Religion and State.' Company responsibilities keep her from performing day-to-day administration, however she assists in religious affairs by seeking out heretics, as she once was, and returning them to the fold.

Many questions remain unanswered about The Silent

Hand. There were many things she could not tell me due to the sensitive nature of the times (namely the abduction and ransom of the Elven Queen Orelinde, as well as the presence of Lloth's agents on the Overworld). She did regale me with smaller facts of her personality. Her favorite color is purple, for instance. She finds psychic power fascinating. She has no interest in love, as she's found no one suited to her tastes.

A beam of moonlight has pierced the shadowed exterior

to reveal unto us a piece of what is Kaylia. Much remains obscured, but I leave it to you, the reader, to seek out the Accountant if so inclined. If she wishes, you may learn more. So long as you aren't on the Company debt list.
