The Power of Words

Cultural Studies · by Academician Khranin Tansay

In this world there are many different ways to gage strength and power. Some consider money to be the ultimate power, and still others say that personal strength is the greatest ally one could have. It is this Heralds opinion that neither hold such power as words. It is an age old expression that the pen is mightier than the sword, and I believe that on many levels this is true.

A man can easily slay another with a sword. A man can oppress many under the threat of such violence. These things are true, however, what is the one thing that all tyrants fear? The spread of ideas of freedom. Many tyrants of years passed censored the people so that certain things were not released to the public. What were these things? Weapons? Swords? Arrows? No, they were words. Words have the power in them to ignite a flame that would never die. They have the power to right wrongs and express ideas that people could only dream of. Words represent ideas, and unlike men, ideas will never die.

Within the power of words, and yes, I call it power, there is the ability to do many things. One could write something so beautiful that could bring tears to the most cold hearted man. One could write a tale so chilling it could scare even the bravest of soldiers. One could express to the world what he was feeling to an extent that almost no other form of art could come close. A man could teach the world of things that he has learned, and could even set free a nation of the oppressed.

To be able to write well is a true and rare gift. It is possible to engage in many forms of artistic expression with writing. Playwrights, song writers, poets, and story tellers all use words to convey messages and ideas to the people, many of which can greatly move the audience emotionally.

In the end, those who write will eventually die, but their words will live on. Their words live on for generations to come. Their words will move, inspire, teach, and reveal many things to the new generations and continue on in a great cycle. If you wish an example of such, read the other tomes in this library. Many of these tomes were written years before you were born, and will be here for years after your body returns to sand. People still read these books; they still learn from them. It shows that words ultimately stand the test of time, and have true power to them.
