Ihreraeh, the Wild Flower
Faces In Time · by Herald Gindrug Leese
How to put the infinite in the finite? Be it a painting, a music composition, a poem or any other art form? The everlasting question every true artist has come to face. The question Im trying to address in this particular portrait.
Ihreraeh Shundenah. Who is she? A Knight? The Executioner of the Order? A member of a mysterious race living on a plane out of Aabahran called the Githzerai?
In her own words: I am a bastion to which others can come to find refuge. Be it for knowledge or for safety for their ideals.
She is all that, and infinitely more. Sensibility for an artist is very important, the inner gut feeling, the intuition. Ive talked and traveled with Lady Ihreraeh quite a lot, discussed many topics including ethics, philosophy, awareness, enlightenment, fighting tactics and opponents, yet my gut feeling tells me I know only a tiny fraction of what she really is.
For a long time she was simply a Vagabond. First mastering the arts of the paladin guildhalls, afterwards devoting herself to follow the path of the crusaders. Her care and devotion to the wellbeing of other is boundless. Always willing to sacrifice herself, to take the front of the fight, to engage and occupy the attention of evil forces so others may be safe, never thinking much of the perils she puts herself in.
Ive watched her fight many times, and never saw the slightest trace of rage, hate, madness or even mild irritation. She was always as serene and peaceful as if we were sitting in a lovely garden calmly sipping tea and chatting.
Flowers have since ancient times been a symbol of enlightenment. A plant with its roots in the dirt, with its stem and leaves, managed to transcend itself and produce something which has an inner beauty greater than the decorations and adornments of the mightiest and richest of kings. A flower.
Flowers which grow in the wilderness are particularly notable for this inner beauty. The plant producing it had to struggle for survival, with adverse weather conditions, wild animals, other plants fighting for the same territory yet it managed to grow something utterly beautiful.
It is said that master artists can make their art with minimum effort and material. The painter with just a few strokes of the brush, the musician with just a few well placed notes and rests, the poet with just a few words.
Dear reader, allow me to try myself in such an expression.
