Aabahran

Okuach, The Wander Mage

Heralds of Aabahran · by Herald Okuachi

Unnatural, only briefly brushes the surface regarding Okuachi's birth. His poor unfortunate mother, a dryad from the Everwild, served merely as a conduit that delivered the magical energy of Okuachi's soul unto the world of Aabahran. A noble merchant's son placed a magical tribal medicine bag around the dryad's neck she instantly swelled with child. Within hours the babe Okuachi filled his lungs with the first breath of air. However, the mandate of magic's balance, states that to create a life, another life must be destroyed. This balance claimed the life of Okuachi's mother.

Distraught by the passing of events, the noble merchant's son took Okuachi into his home to raise as his own. Sadly the man would never see Okuachi grow into even a young boy. Before Okuachi began to speak the man passed of old age. The servants of the noble house raised Okuachi, and while he lived in the house of plenty, he learned well the struggles of the common man. When Okuachi reached his twenty second year, a thief visited the noble house. The thief bared a contract that laid claim to entirety of the noble house and the treasures within. Okuachi, and the servants, were asked politely to leave and never return. Okuachi set out on his own with only a single solitairy posession, a magical tribal medicine bag.

Okuachi's magical nature afforded him a unique understanding of all things magical, so it was neither destiny or fate, but rather logic that brought him to the guild of invokers. His talent with the magic arts allowed him to rise quickly through the ranks of the invoker's guild. Aquiring most of his promotions within the guild merely by the constant practice of his craft, Okuachi rarely traveled with others. Long before Okuachi achieved the final promotion within the guild of invokers, he met the Queen Dilorry and learned of the Heralds and their library.

The Allmage who watched over the Heralds visited Okuachi and offered him an opportunity to join the library. Having no family or friends, he accepted the job, with little regard to the countless, thankless, hours of work that would be involved. Visitations by otherworldly entities seemed to plague Okuachi, on one occasion the Ageless of Fright stared into Okuachi's eyes in an attempt to cause his head to explode. On another occasion, this same entity shared with him the story of the Ageless' ascention.

Okuachi always felt the duties of the Heraldry were his calling, and devoted his life to aiding his fellow scholars and future scholars in any way he could. Called to aid the Allmage when his health began to fail, the Herald stuggled knowing that this would likely become the greatest challenge he would ever face. Stoicly Okuachi sought the solution to the Allmage's health problems, attempting again and again, though his persistant failure mocked him at every turn.
