The First Commandment

Commandments of the Crown · by Herald Duhnkal Wyrmbeard

The first commandment is, Let not there be Weakness, only Strength.

What is, strength? Or even weakness for that matter.

Is Strength merely a measure of ones ability to chop wood? To chip stone? What is true strength. Mundane achievements of fortitude that sets one above their peers? Is it truly limited to the physical world then? Is spiritual strength enough to satisfy the commandment? these questions fill the minds of the acolyte and learned alike. The common mistake is to confuse strength with power. A powerful Magi may possess no emotional strength. A mighty ogre could swing a tree, but in the end be frail of mind.

And how about weakness. Is it weak to withdraw from the front line? Is a Faerie, weak? They have no muscle. Is it weak to order retreat to preserve ones troops. One finds weakness is often mislabeled. Those of darkness fling this word about as an accusation. You are weak! They exclaim, as you stoop to lift a child from the rubble. Often the concepts of weakness, and strength, are convoluted. Used as a goad.

I tell you my brethren, true strength is not in power. It is in understanding and holding to ones convictions and principals. Am I weak because do not pursue a foe? Are you weak because you divert your path and lead an enemy out away from innocent lives? The answer is simply no. What is weak is to let the words of an enemy guide your path. To let emotion take hold as you forget your own oaths. This is weakness.

So let there not be weakness, only strength. In the face of great odds, hold your ground. Yet never forget why. Never lose sight of the true purpose. We are the protectors of this land. Holding to our principals, and the guiding light, is the greatest feat of strength we could ever achieve.
