The Sixth Commandment
Commandments of the Crown · by Herald Duhnkal Wyrmbeard
The Sixth Commandment is, Let not there be Greed, only Charity.
Oh for the want of gold. A lust known by so many, and resisted by so few. Such though is not the limit of this commandments scope. It ranges far beyond the petty desire for coin. And the giving of it freely.
Greed comes in many shapes and forms. And is often times invisible to those whom perpetuate it. Usually relegated to a desire for coin, or gold. In truth it is a much more devilish thing. One can be greedy for battle, can lust for blood, can be greedy of food or land. A knight can be greedy as they hoard spoils to forge their armor, or seek a kings title and blessing.
To truly embrace charity though, one must give for no reason than the giving itself. Many will speak of the great feeling they receive when they give to someone who has less. This is the wrong reason. One must give freely of themselves to embrace the charity of a Knight. We begin as humble squires, and we end as humble squires. Never do we stop learning, and always do we give ourselves to the crown.
Let not there be Greed, only Charity. Is in my mind one of the simplest commandments. At the same time so easy to follow, yet just as easy and simple to transgress against. You must use what you are given and take nothing from others. And to those we protect shall go the spoils of our wars. The Castle should be a source of wealth, and those who live in its shadow should thrive from our humble charity. Your service itself as a Knight is not an effort to be laden with accolades. Bestowed grand armor, and shields. It is an act of service, as I have written before. Our greatest charity is that we give ourselves to Aabahran.
