The Fae Story Part 1: The Death of the Last Elder of the Fae Court By Firular Sikkuiuopius, the Scholar
Visible trouble started with the discovery of the corpses. On the road between Miruvhor and Maelbrim, a large number of faerie corpses of all ages laid on all sides of the road in the dirt. They did not bear any visible wounds or signs of attack, instead they looked like having starved to death. A few corpses looked to have succumbed to some illness, having gray and scaly skin. The citizens of both cities were concerned, but after a few days continued to go on with their businesses. However, this was just the concerned, but after a few days continued to go on with their businesses. However, this was just the beginning. Soon enough a few more corpses appeared, one even west of Val Miran, as well as an undead faerie in the woods south of Miruvhor.
Nearly at the same time demonic portals appeared on all sides of Val Miran, centering their focus on its Central Square. A red glow emanated from the central focus of the gates and a variety of demons started to appear in Val Miran. It seemed the working of the Nexus, but nobody was sure and no proof could be found.
In the meantime, their opposition - the Knights of the Crown, led by the halfling Faurnin the Murderer, started to mobilize a huge army consisting of all races capable to join them. An order of forced conscription was issued, and even though some citizens resisted and protested, the Knights managed to gather a large force.
Some time before the discovery of the corpses, the Savant Tower was seen flying high in the sky and falling from its former location south of Miruvhor into the Great Landfill, south-west of Val Miran. A goblin infestation of the Tower immediately followed, without explanation.
Times were troubled, and the future looked bleak and uncertain.
But things only got worse. Faeries living in the Escismir Egal, the Kaddar and the Ylsae, all fell sick to a strange disease. Soon after, Estelar the last elder of the Fae Court in Gualorium contacted the Herald Academician, the Viscount Thyrius, asking for an urgent meeting. Estelar informed Thyrius that the Source, the Life Eternal of the Fae, was fading and loosing its power. In the meantime, Ihreraeh the Vagabond followed a Kaddar spy who rushed to overhear the conversation. According to Estelar, the Source was the very essence of life and without it the faeries would all die. The corpses found between Miruvhor and Maelbrim apparently died not of starvation, but because of the Source loosing its powers. And the Kaddar and Ylsae sickness was not a disease, but the result of the weakening Source. It seemed like a whole race of Aabahran was facing extinction. Thyrius spread the news to a selected few and a party was organized who sought a solution.
As the Source continued its waning, Estelar grew desperate and sent several scrolls seeking assistance. One to his old friend Archimus, the great inventor. Another to the Tower of Savants, and yet another to the Nexus Fortress. As the Fae elder was finishing the last scroll, a shadow appeared in the room and quickly slit his throat. Estelar, the last elder of the Fae Court, was dead.
